It didn't help their predecessors any. It's all that talk of "Tom Brady's mentor" and stuff like that that has pushed Notre Dame from mediocrity into the realm of "pretty good", and if their recruiting keeps going the way it's going, they'll be a strong team in a year or two.

I'd guess that the three super bowl rings are up there, too, along with Weis's ties to the NFL.

Personally, if I were a recruit, I'd also look at bowl records... .

I'm sure the media attention is a factor is Weis's recruiting efforts, though I wouldn't discount ND's "mystique", tradition, and facilities. I honestly don't think Weis would get the attention he does from either the media or recruits if he coached Boston College or the University of Illinois.

Miles will get more respect from the media with a championship (just an SEC championship would do it). And Weis will eventually lose some if he continues to get his rear-end kicked in bowl games and post mediocre records with a service academy-laden schedule.

Not entirely true when you consider that the AAA game put on by Scout in January is practically overseen by Lemming, the original ND honk. He secures the invites, he decides who gets interviewed, it's aired on NBC, nd's flagship station, recruits boost their national prominence and their selected school by announcing during the telecasts.

But wait, there's always a bigger fish. Come next January, ESPN will begin to host their own All Star game and some of the biggest recruits of next year's class have already agreed to participate over the AAA game. You think these kids don't use the media and vice versa? It's a huge recruiting tool. Lemming is nervous.

Are you saying that playing in th allstar game plays a part in where a recruit commits? Playing in an allstar game and announcing a commitment on tv doesn't has no bearing on who gets the commit that I have seen.

Think she means more How they commit, are going through the committal process- using it as one of the tools. :thumb:

Mostly how but also some where. Like I said, Lemming decides which players get an invite and so naturally some schools are cut out of the mix.

Wait until ESPN starts airing this game. It will take only moments before fans around the country start claiming favoritism by ESPN for BCS schools like LSU, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas which leads to a belief that those schools have a distinct advantage in terms of recruiting.

The biggest influences on a recruit are (in no particular order) facilities, coaching staff, academics, playing time and the proven success of a program to put athletes into the NFL.

Neither of which were his fault.

The punt was in the first series of the first game ever coached by Miles. And he didn't even call it. I actually think you are the only one who remembers that play or, at least, holds it against Les. Tennessee was the 2nd game. Would Miles be a better coach if we scored 21 points in the 4th and lost in OT?

Perception, dude. I hear this a lot. I'm going to start demanding examples when this is brought up. Miles interviews as well as any coach out there, IMO.

"Things (weren't)working out" four times (out of 26) since Miles has been here. You don't have enough data to make that claim.

    Agreed.

Miles has really improved his media skills. I like how he lets loose and puts shows his competitiveness and intensity. He did struggle in the early going.
