Miles/Bertman: Character Counts

Love to see Miles not hesitate to bring character players to a team and kick the viruses out. All coaches should take a page out of Miles' book.

“I don’t need examples, because this is the way I have always operated,” Miles said. “When you’re dealing with young men, there are times when there is an absence of decision-making. And when that decision-making reflects poor character, what occurred is the only alternative, because you simply can’t tolerate that type of behavior.”

And so swift was Miles’ reaction, that Bertman was never involved in the process.

And that was just fine by him.

“As a college coach, you’re the GM, the vice president, the board of directors — you’re even the owner,” Bertman said. “A college football coach at a major university is very powerful, but with that comes a lot of responsiblity — on and off the field.

“The way Coach Miles handled this situation shows how much he values character. There’s just aren’t two sides to it — either you have a team based on character or you don’t. Our football team does.”

Pro football seems to be doing a character shift as well. Time to get the hoodlums out of the game. Go Miles. :thumb:

Les Miles is the college football equivalent of Sean Payton.

Louisiana football is in good hands for years to come.
