apparently after the loss of pennington, the jets wanted to sign matt mauck, but the titans were not having it. from yahoo sports: News The Titans will promote quarterback Matt Mauck from their practice squad in order to keep him from signing with the Jets. "We are going to keep Matt," Titans GM Floyd Reese told The Tennessean. "We like him well enough that we want to keep him and bring him along." Views Mauck was apparently at the airport ready to fly to New York to meet with the Jets when Reese contacted him and told him he was being promoted. The former seventh-round pick was added by the Titans after the Broncos cut him prior to the start of the season.
Thats just great. So rather than get a chance to actually play with an NFL team, the Titans will make him ride the bench behind McNair.
The thing is that this more than likely will be Mcnairs final season as the starter in Tenn and instead of wasteing a draft pick on a qb next draft they will be able to go out and get a rb or possible a wide reciever. I think a move like this shows that Mauck might possible have a bright future with Tenn.
Also, it is likely the Jets just wanted him as their third strong guy. Not like he is missing out on a starting opportunity.
Yeah, I hear they signed Testaverde...Mauck would be third behind Vinny and Bollinger at this point. Knowing the offense counts for a lot when your first and second string QB's both go down. That's the exact same reason why Davey isn't on a roster right now. edit: check that, rohan's on the cardinals roster??? http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/ESPNSports/story?id=1163714 edit again: which is it? cards or skins?
i would much rather have davey than mauck. it is too bad the jets dont sign davey. they look like they need a long term solution badly.
read this article i read the other day on davey when he was cut. he's not a good practice player and never has been. seems to be his downfall again. End of the road for Rohan Davey http://enterprise.southofboston.com/articles/2005/08/30/news/sports/sports03.txt
