Check the tape. The first team corners were in the game.

No doubt the competition was not top notch but Flynn did a great job of finding the open reciever quickly and getting them the ball. On one of the Doucet TD's Flynn hit him perfectly in stride coming across the middle and Doucet never broke stride. I would like to see Flynn play against better competition like everyone else but I think it's unfair to down play his performance. I don't see how you could ask a back up QB to come out and do any better than he did especially considering that he has had almost no playing time his entire career thus far.

I seem to recall JR hitting a wide open Brazell in stride for a TD. The winning score vs. ASU was on the money to a moving Doucet. Not downplaying Flynn's performance, but, let's see him hit his target from 41 yards while running toward the sideline and throwing off his back foot.

Some people feel the need to talk down one QB in order to talk up another, I don't think that is necessary. I firmly believe that JR is our starting QB, he is doing a pretty good job and I believe he has great potential to be even better. Why is it when talking about one QB's performance the other QB must be mentioned like he has to be defended or something?

Why is there such a defensive tone to your post? O.K., so you think JaMarcus made a good throw that time. That proves what? And is relavent to what?

Matt Flynn looked great. In watching the replay, Even the t.d. pass to X Carter was not as behind him as I first thought. Flynn made several nice roll out passes with good touch, including one to the Tight End (or was it full back) running a flair route / safety valve (meaning that he was not zoned in on his primary recdeiver, and he didn't try to force one in when it wasn't there). Pretty damn good for a back-up with very little experience.

And for the record, JaMarcus throws off of his back foot even when he doesn't need to. (It probably helps take some of the heat off of his cannon arm! )

I was responding to this earlier post in the thread:

Once again the ignoranus* factor rears it's ugly head.

So, Jesuit Flyer red dots me and tells me to stop with the personal attacks. If you are going to call me out, at least get the facts straight. I will defend myself and I won't be politically correct in doing so. Another freaking ignoranus.

Re: Flynn mighty fine mopping up at QB

Maybe in a blowout, but JR is the man when scores are desperately needed. He's proven he can do it in such situations over and over again. 7/7 against a Sun Belt loser already badly beaten is one thing...Doing it in a tight game against ASU, Florida, Auburn and Iowa is another thing entirely. We should be happy that we have a reliable backup and leave it at that.

Re: Flynn mighty fine mopping up at QB

"inserting a somewhat proven Flynn for a hypothetically struggling Russell isn't as absurd as it seemed a week ago."

This guy is suggesting a two QB system where we rotate out the QB that struggles. We've seen how well that works. Miles did the right thing chosing a starting QB & sticking with him. If he struggles, we struggle - but it will help him to get better & help us win games down the road.
