As you are well aware of by now, New Orleans and the Gulf Coast of South-Eastern Louisiana over to Alabama have been utterly decimated by hurricane Katrina. Everyone is anxious to do what they can to help in any way possible. Right now, the Red Cross has stated that money is all that they want or need. Donations of water, clothing, etc are not currently needed because of the extra effort it takes for the transportation of goods. They have stated they want money, and they'll buy what they need where they need it for immediate distribution. The LSU Board here in Austin is in the process of organizing a blood drive/fund raiser to give us all the opportunity to do what we can to help those back home that are in desperate need of our assistance. We don't have details yet - as soon as those are available we will pass them on to everyone. If you are interested in helping out with whatever we can organize, please respond to this e-mail and I will put together a "volunteer list" which will passed on to the organizers when we have a better idea of what we are going to do. In the meantime, the LSU Austin Alumni website has a link to the Red Cross if you want to donate money immediate - or you can go to the Red Cross website directly. Folks, the devastation from the flooding in New Orleans is absolute. The destruction along the Gulf Coast is biblical - and everyone has been affected by this disaster. Please keep those whose lives have been so incredibly impacted by this in your thoughts and your prayers and your meditations. Look for a follow up e-mail with the blood drive/fund raiser details.
