1. On Feb 22, 1980, the US Olympic Hockey team beat the USSR 4-3 in the Miracle on Ice game. LKF: The game was actually played, as scheduled, in the afternoon. ABC lobbied the IOC to move the start to prime time, but that would have meant a 4am start Moscow time. ABC recorded the game and, with cooperation from the Olympic press, kept the results a secret until the game could be aired in prime time that night, with no mention that it had been previously recorded. Many people who watched the game that night still think they saw it live.

  2. I just found out that I didn't
  3. Me too. Surprised that I had never heard that in all these years. Somebody who knew must have made a killing on the "live" game.

  4. Not so much a LKF as a misconception, probably from people who were born long after the Miracle and don't know its full story, but the win over the Soviets did not win the US the gold. They still had to beat Finland, and had they lost that game, in the format the Olympics used at the time, would not have earned any medal at all.
  5. 13 of the 20 1980 team members went on to the NHL, including Ken Morrow, who later that year became the first person to ever win Olympic Gold and the Stanley Cup in the same season (NY Islanders). The 13 did not include team captain Mike Eruzione, who turned down offers because he wanted the Olympic team to be his last team. Despite his Olympic heroics, goaltender Jim Craig lasted only 30 games in the NHL. Herb Brooks coached several NHL teams after the '80 Olympics, and also coached the French team in '98, before returning to Team USA and coaching that club to a silver medal in 2002. On the 22nd anniversary of the Miracle game, the '02 team beat Russia 3-2 in the semifinals. Brooks died in a car crash in 2003. Today, the Lake Placid arena where the Miracle on Ice occurred is named in his honor.

  6. One more "Miracle" LKF, this one involving the movie "Miracle"....the arena where the game with the Soviets was filmed (its in Vancouver, Canada) is the same arena where the fight between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago ("Rocky IV") was filmed.

  7. Donaldsonville LA is the worst city in Louisiana and the second worse in the USA to live in.
  8. My nephew got married in D'ville about a year ago. They did a civil ceremony in the park across from the courthouse on a Friday afternoon. That is the "historic district" of the city and it is a ghost town.
  9. The article says Dville is economically depressed because of the lack of jobs. There are dozens of plants and refineries within an easy commute.
  10. How about a link to the article?
