Don't sweat it, newbs get a pretty intense initiation here but it's all in the name of fun. Stick around and post more, it's refreshing to have new perspectives, I get tired of having to read Nutria's crap. :hihi:
Hey geauxarmy, first off, welcome to the tigerforums! Miles and his coaching staff are not without their triumphs (Florida game) but would not have been able to acheive them without the great talent that LSU has amassed. So in answering your question, I think it has to do more with all the pieces in place than one individual part by itself, hence the word team. By the way, are you still in the military, and if so where? Just curious.
you have to give saban credit for the team i dont care what any1 says plain an simple........it's just like gruden down in tampa when he won the super bowl he won it with dungy's team an u see whats happened since....now im not saying our program is going to go to the dogs but just about any descent coach could do what les has done with the talent saban left....but les has done a descent job i think he is to old school at times but thats just him............ive always questioned the hiring which im pretty sure all of u did especially with proven coaches out there like butch davis, spurrier, i think that was the year norm chow left usc and he was available...but its not like les has set us back 15yrs either.........you either love him or hate him but he is a good football coach wouldnt be my choice but none the less he is a good coach.....
The shift key is like 1/8th of an inch in either dirction from the keys. Are you so lazy that you can't move one of your 10 fingers over 1/8th of an inch. You must weigh 600lbs.
Seems like whe LSU wins, it's because of the coordinators and Saban's recruits, when we lose, it's because of Miles. You can't' have it both ways. We had a coach take over a program that was rolling. Archer took over for Arnsparger after 1 SEC championship and 2 Sugar Bowl apperances. The result, 10-1-1 his first year, 8-4 his second and then 4-7, 5-6. Talent level damn near at zero. 4 years of the Hallman abyss followed. I'll stick with Miles.
When you're evaluating a coach, you've got to look at the whole picture. Wins, losses, and championships are most important. But other factors include recruiting, players' graduation rate, public relations, and advancement of the program. Both Nick and Les are good in all these areas. Nick was a monster when it came to recruiting and program advancement. He was decent with the media, and his players rarely got into trouble. (Though his Bama boys are currently tarnishing his image somewhat.) Les has held the fort quite well since Nick left. And he's a more likable guy, in my opinion. As a gameday coach, Nick was hot and cold. His team came out flat numerous times (UAB, 2003 Florida game, final bowl game vs. Iowa come immediately to mind). But he was good enough to win three championships (2 SEC, 1 NC) at a program that hadn't seen one since the '80s. Les as a gameday coach: well, he's 27-5. But no championships yet. He seems to learn from his mistakes most of the time. For example, he let Jamarcus become a downfield passer after the 06 Auburn loss. And he never again let Chevis return a punt after his muff and bad decison making vs. Florida last year. He made mistakes vs. Kentucky. He admits them, though not specifically. We'll see a change vs. Auburn, I think. He knows if Nick wins another SEC title before he does, he'll never live it down. And his days will likely be numbered. :tigerhead
