Unlike her son, Ella Downs was unable to control her emotions upon hearing the news.

"When I called my mother, she started crying because she knew LSU was where I wanted to go," Downs said. "I'm excited to get the chance to play for LSU. I have wanted to go there since junior high."

Downs is projected as a nose guard at LSU.

"That was the reason I moved him to defense," Bradshaw said. "I felt like that was his best chance to play at a high level."

Though slightly under-sized by Southeastern Conference standards at 6-2, 255, Bradshaw said the LSU coaching staff was impressed with Downs' motor.

"He's going to give you everything he has," Bradshaw said. "That was the deciding factor in LSU making him an offer. There are definitely bigger players out there, but few play as hard as Josh."

Once the Tigers made an offer, there was little need for persuading Downs to accept. He was sold on LSU after attending football camp in Baton Rouge last summer and witnessing the LSU-Florida game at Tiger Stadium in October.

"We were down on the field and you could feel the crowd hollering," Downs said. "When the team runs through the tunnel and the band starts playing, it's like an earthquake on the field."

From all accounts, this kids seems destined for the D-line, but the coaches probably like the fact he could play center if the need arises.
