    is that his reputation in coaching circles? national media? or just dale brown?

    i certainly was never impressed by the coaching of dale's teams after 87.

  3. You know, it's funny that this post should come up, b/c I half way thought about making a similar post about good ole' Johnny Jones.

    Why is this relevant? Well, b/c Jones is currently head coach of North Texas, who coincidentally made the NCAA tourney for the first time since like 1988. They had a 23-10 record or something, albeit in a tiny conference.

    I can't speak to his ability as a coach, but it would seem he's at least competent if his Mean Green team could get to the Big Dance. It seems as others have said, he's a former point guard (does he help you with your guard recruiting or bring a fresh perspective on offense), good recruiter. He probably gets you some access (or increased access) to North Texas and knows LA. Clearly he's not the greatest pick up, but someone with LSU ties that might be on a list of folks you talk to.

    Who are these great recruits that JJ brought to LSU? I remember an assistant from a small school in West Virginia, Craig Carse, who had some success as a recruiter. However, most of the top players Brown brought to LSU came with their HS head coach.
    I also remember a lot of Browns recruits, except the foreign nationals, had trouble staying eligible. I suspect that Brady and Butch have had more players graduate in his ten years as Brown in his twenty-seven years

  8. I'm not going to waste my time searching for every player who didn't graduate for twenty seven years. However, there are three on LSU's team this year who are scheduled to graduate this year. Temple, Mason, and Lazarre are all scheduled to graduate in four years. I challenge you to find three on one of Browns teams that graduated in four years in the same class.
  9. No, that ain't the way it works. You made the statement, do your own research. Challenging me to go find out something else is not proving the point. You said that Brady has graduated more players in 10 years than Dale did in 25. I'm just asking for proof.
  10. Good head coaches hire good recruiters and Dale always hired good recruiters. Jones was one of the better ones. Ron Abernathy was probably the best. He may have come to LSU with Rudy Macklin, but he stayed for another decade because he could recruit very well.
