1. I should probably know this but... Is Jeremy Hill eligible for next year's NFL draft since he was in the same HS class as Hilliard? Or does he have to wait until 2015 since he enrolled later?

If Hill has another big year, which round would he project? He definitely looks the part of an every down NFL RB.

If Hill and Blue leave after this upcoming year, would Hilliard be the likely #1 RB in 2014 or would it be more likely that a younger guy would pass him up?
  2. The rule is three years after your graduating HS class so he would be eligible.
  3. Thanks. On a somewhat related topic, I heard on the radio this morning (from someone more informed than myself) that the insurance policies referenced for elite NCAA football players are often misunderstood. Basically, there has probably never been a player that would be eligible to file a claim and is geared more towards disability (neck/paralysis/etc.) rather than a typical football injury that makes a player less attractive to NFL teams.

For example, Marcus Lattimore was likely projected as a 1st round pick before his injury this season and could have obtained an insurance policy. Now his injury has pushed him down to the middle to late rounds. He has lost millions but the insurance policy (if he had one) would not have paid him a cent.

With the extremely physical nature of SEC football, the argument could be made that someone like Jeremy Hill (assuming he's considered a 1st/2nd round draft pick) should sit out his final year to avoid serious injury. NFL teams would not look at this favorably because nobody has really done this but that could change if it were more common.

Think about it, having $10m+ guaranteed versus having a number of things happen during the season (including just a simple high ankle sprain that limits production) that could drop you down to being a late round pick with no guarantee of making a roster.
  4. Lets all just hope Mr. Hill does not hit the sophmore slump like Mr. Hillard did. Both did really well in season 1. I hope Hillard ,Blue and Hill are all just healthy and the RB's we know they can be. The nice thing is with a stable of backs they still have fresh legs for the pro's.

  5. Hill is eligible for 2014 as mobius stated. I don't see him going, but if he does, more room for Leonard Fournette.
  6. This came up with that Clowney stuff earlier this year. I think those policies became popular when the broadcasters of that miami game years ago were talking about McGahee's policy minutes before his knee explosion. Everyone assumed he got paid but he didn't and like you said, it's doubtful anyone has. To me, the risk of sitting out is greater than the risk of round dropping injury so I wouldn't go that route.
  7. Obviously, insurance companies would not pay out a claim for a knee injury or something similar. They couldn't afford to do that. Besides, they wouldn't pay out on a projected loss of income that no one could really confirm. No one really knows where an athlete is going to be drafted ahead of time.
  8. If Hill plays 13-14 games as the lead back and goes well over 1200 yards, which at his pace last year he would shatter, I think we can kiss him goodbye. Running backs take so much punishment with shortened career expectancies, they have to strike while the iron is hot, and a big year from a guy with his size and speed will have his iron like an inferno. Every other position in football plays with a goal of getting at least two big contracts. Most elite-level running backs know they can only expect one big contract after the rookie deal, and even then they will have had to have at least 3 consecutive really good years to get it. A knee injury or more than one concussion changes everything. So these college guys are going to try more and more to get there with as little tread on the wheels as possible.

It honestly wouldn't shock me to see all three backs gone after this year, Hill being a potential first RB taken, Blue being senior, and Hilliard having to support twins. I would bet our recruiters see that writing on the wall as well.
