It's been so long since we had a real fun to watch passing game I can hardly remember what one looks like. When we have a 300+ yard passing preformance again we will all fall out. I wish that we could see a Drew Brees like preformance by an LSU qb for just one damn game. Just imagine what our running game would be like if we could throw for 300 yards and have something like a 18 for 24 with 3 td's game.

I think it is two issues.

    1) .. YES .. the receivers were better. Was watching an ESPN clip last night featuring a receiver [can't remember his name] where the annoncer dude was throwing him all kinds of suck as passes. And it showed how he twisted, turned, and everything else to make the catches. The Bottom Line of the clips ... the Receivers make the QB look better than they actually are. This dud was making 1 handed behind the back catches, twist and turn catches ... jump up and grab passes ... I mean, if it was within reach, it was caught. [disclaimer .. of course .. it was "camera" .. so no telling how many takes it took to get those shots .. but still ... all I see our current crop of receivers doing is dropping the ball]

    2) .. Les Miles does not have the confidence in JLee he had in 2008. I'll add .. he doesn't have any confidence in JJ either... that is why we've gone to the run only game. Back then, he ran pass plays. Nowadays ... he does not. I think if Miles would let go, and let Lee play, call the game confidently, and use the plays appropriate for the call .... Lee would regain his mojo he had. AND ..hopefully, now with more maturity, and years of practice, he'll be better at avoiding the ints. AND .. for gods sake .. .don't call some stupid five yard pass when you need 10!!! .. makes me scream. Just punt the damn ball on 3rd down if you're going to that sheite.

    - GOING laduckfan STYLE -

Jarrett Lee against Oregon was semi conservative with his passes, had a few drops been caught, our passing game would have been much more impressive. I hope to see him open up even more as we enter conference play. Granted, J-Lee threw several picks in 2008 and I don’t want to see that again, but we were more of a threat in the passing game. Not a Heisman QB threat, but we lined up to go after the defense.

We didn’t have the stable of backs lining up in 2008 that we have in 2011, so I can understand a run first offense, but at some point we have to develop a passing attack where J-Lee is throwing for 200 yards/game and 2 TD's (at least) if we plan to win the SEC

    J-Lee's first 5 Conference Games in 2008

    Auburn - 22 attempts 182 yards 2 TD's & 1 pick
    State - 27 attempts 261 yards 2 TD's & 1 pick
    Florida - 38 attempts 209 yards 2 TD's & 2 picks
    SC - 26 attempts 189 yards o TD's & 1 pick
    Georgia - 28 attempts 287 yards 3 TD's & 3 picks

Ya, he threw 8 Interceptions in 5 games, NO NOT OK, but he also threw for 1,128 yards and 9 touchdowns in 5 games, WE NEED THAT. That will truly keep the defense honest and open up our running game MUCH more.

I'd like to see him and RR become a Top Red Zone Threat in the country. I'd also like to see JL and DP form a QB/TE relationship where DP is averaging 8 catches a game.

When we line up to run and they bring 8,9 in the box, J-Lee needs to audible, hot route, and throw that exact pass he threw to DP against Oregon, right over the top for 15 yards or MORE every time!

When RS comes back, I don’t want to see any bubble screens, or WR screens, I want to see some wheel routes and deadly slants.

How long until BG can use these weapons: RR, RS, SW, MF, OD, DP and turn them into what Tebow had with Harvin, Demps, Moody, Rainey - AND Most of all, the relationship Tebow and Hernandez had!!

I really and truly hope that Oregon’s defense is stiff and stout, and this LSU offense is much more than we think, because if they are, it is going to be one silly fun year :crystal:

I've always referred to these stats in the past as well. The Kid used to be a significant pass threat .. .just lacked the maturity to read well, thus the picks. [I mean .. what the hell do you expect out of a true freshman]

UNFORTUNATELY ... all the talking heads in the LSU Fan Base crawled up on this poor kids shoulders like a monkey, and have made him so paranoid of making a mistake that he has not performed like that since. It's all psychological.

Hopefully the fact that JL doesn't have the empty threat of JJ comming in the first time he sneezes will reinstill that sense of "get er done". These last two years have frustrated the crap out of me. I don't give a rats ass how damn good JJ looked in practice this year ... Miles was singing the same stupid tune last year ... and we all see what that got us. So what .. JJ played great against a wimpy A&M team .... if it were not for pure luck, we shouldn't have even been in that game. Had it not been for Lee .. we would NOT have been in that game.

I was a big fan of Lee last year .. and I'm a big fan of Lee this year. And if all the "couch potatoe quaterback experts" would get off his back, he might come back to life ... like 2008, but without the ints.:geaux:

True, we have fans all over the place with their opinions, and I understand why. Our offense has been all over the place with its performances. But I do agree that Lee is gun shy after 2008, I mean who wouldn’t be? I really hope that he comes to and brings back that gun slinger mentality this season.

When the defenses start bringing their front seven up on the line, and showing corner blitz packages, Lee should be sitting back there licking his chops. He should begin playing pick-a-part with the defenses until they start playing pass and then we go back to the ground and pound.

    Contained Chaos Don't we all?

The thing that gives me the most hope about the rest of the season is that now we have a QB coach who appears to be capable of pointing out Lee's mistakes in games and helping him move past them. I think we'll see noticeable improvement because of that.

I would love to see lee check out when he sees the box stacked with 8or9 players. When they stack the box send the tight end and receiver flying down the field. With man coverage on them, play action should kill them. Fake the ball on the hand- off and throw the bomb.

I think one of the issues has been a shift in what "fans" want to see. It is a place were old nestalgic phukers like me, and the new breed will just disagree.

Today, people are all hyped up about the "running QB". I can't say it's not a great strategy, and it does ad a dimesion to the game, but, at the same time, IMO, it takes away many dimesions as well. Old school guys like me prefer to see great RBs run the ball, and Great WRs catch the ball. I mean ....

Would there have even been a Hershal Walker, if the QB ran the ball all the time?? Would have Mark Ingram won the Hiesman if he would have been teamed up with a running QB?? I doubt it, as they would have gotten half the carries. Would the Great WRs be as present as they were, if half of the passes they caught would have been scrapped for a QB run.

Granted, there have been some GREAT running QBs. Vince Young, Pryor, Newton, .. even D Thomas of Oregon is a GREAT running QB. Jefferson never quite made that level IMO. .. but, we still here fans talking about the "run dimension" that he brings. In my eyes .. every run Jefferson took was a run attempt that Ridley, a truly great RB, did not get to take.

I know .. it's an unresolvable situation .. it's just a matter of opinion. At the same time, our last NC was with a combined run/pass attack. We haven't seen an SEC championship or NC since. 2008 was understandable IMO .... the learning curve is just too steap for a freshman to take it to the house. 2009 and 10 were, IMO, because we didn't stick our necks out and go for the passing game.

It is what it is. :geaux:

And the fact that every time JL went to the sidelines he was putting on a headset talking with Coach Krag. That's OTJT and that's where it's at!!

Just got around to watching the postgame interviews after NWS. Lee definitely looks more confident. I knew he did *in* both games on the field, but her really seems more comfortable (still humble too) in front of the camera. (after the OU game he seemed a bit shy ;))
