I know that this may need to be merged somewhere but hear me out: I havent seen much b!tching about Lee "YET"....but before anybody decides to say that 10/22 98 yards and 1 TD wont get us anywhere in the SEC this year, lets break this down Take away the dropped passes that were very catchable balls, 2 that would have been 20+ yard gains. That sparks his stats right there. Then there is the pass interference call in the endzone, that would have been an easy TD grab by RR but instead we punched it in on the ground. Finally, the pass play to OD, that A) Was called back for holding...and B) Beckham should have maintained his balance and taken that the distance. We can all sit here and nit pick and play the "what if" game about everything, however, erase those mistakes I listed above, and Lee is more along the lines of 15/20 200 yards and 3 TD's - And some of us are chanting Heisman Hopeful I think that Lee played very well on the big stange, and hats off to him. Our offense still needs some work, but I feel more confident than ever that they will "actually" improve this year as we move forward. This team is magical and we are in for a magical year, there is no doubt that we will only get better and better each week, and become more difficult to beat! Great Game, we have 6 more ranked teams to beat, dont look past anybody!! :geaux:
The pass to Randle was probably uncatchable in the endzone on that pass interference call. It was too high and too wide. Not a very good pass. it's always hard to tell because the receiver's progress is impeded but I don't think Randle would have caught that one. The catch by Beckham was more impressive than the pass itself. No way he keeps his balance. Not sure how he caught it, it was incredible. I will say that Lee played within himself and with lots of poise. No ill advised passes (poorly thrown ones, but not into coverage). I still hold out hope that this LSU can have a substantial passing game for the first time in 3 years. Lee took his first step in that direction.
I just re-watched the game, that pass to RR was a catchable ball had the defender not wrapped him up, the one to Beckham, yes was a little over thrown and spectacular catch and probably very difficult to keep his balance. But moral is, with continued improvement, his stats will come and he will be an above average QB and successfull - just MHO
Agree with this. I didn't think Lee looked very good. Still have little confidence in the passing game. Hopefully, things improve with more first team reps. His timing with RR should improve, so that will help a lot. I don't care for Lee's throwing mechanics. Kind of throws from his hip. I'd like to see him step more into his throws and find a higher release point. Cross your fingers and hope LSU doesn't have to win any games through the air.
Oddly enough, he reminds me a lot of Philip Rivers. Ultra quick release, lower release point, but doesn't have Rivers' accuracy obviously. Rivers has much better footwork and overall technique of stepping into the throws. Beats the hell out of that 3 second release of Jordan Jefferson. That is brutal to watch. Lee needs to learn how to stand tough in the pocket and not automatically recoil with that back foot throw. He loses too much zip on his passes that way. The ball gets there a little late and next thing you know the pass is broken up and your receiver just got nailed again.
That's a pretty good comparison. Certainly can't argue with Rivers' effectiveness. I was going to mention that I didn't like Jefferson's mechanics, either. He throws like a windmill. Something ideal would be right in the middle of the two of them.
THIS. He threw off of his back foot the whole night and has done it for most of his career. He really does need to change that. Overall, though, I actually really liked his performance. I know it wasn't flashy, but I don't think the coaches intended for it to be. They had him taking some shots down the field, but despite the excellent playmakers we have at WR, the coaches want this to be a power-run offense and will refuse to begin an air raid until we're down significantly. I really think Lee could have put up more numbers, but the coaches didn't give him a large number of chances. People may say Thomas put up better numbers, but give Lee 50 pass attempts and see what his numbers look like. He certainly had his fair share of poor throws, but no turnovers, and we were up for most of the second half which negated any need for him to throw that much. As in the comeback drive last year against Florida, if we need to air it out, Lee can do it, and the coaches will let him. As for this game, I'm not worried about the #'s; Les makes his living off of keeping the ball on the ground and letting his defense take command.
