I would not be able to understand his reasoning. He has nothing to gain and a great deal to lose by declaring himself for this year's draft. If earning ability is important to him, and I assume it is, then he would be much better off staying in college. A good senior year would almost certainly increase the value of his stock come the 2007 draft.
JM has poor mechanics presently. Throws off of his back foot. Jumps in the air like a mullet. (6'6"?) I suspect he throws hard in practice with good mechanics...but not so well in games. I think receivers have a hard time adjusting between the two. Just my opinion.
I don't think it's as simple as to say he has poor mechanics... I would agree that he displays some poor mechanics during games, but it's not all the time. Usually, it's when he gets flushed from the pocket (which was happening far too often). Even when he does throw it with poor mechanics, I fail to see why that would make such a big difference as to make receivers unable to catch.
I respectfully disagree. If you are used to a guy throwing a hard fast ball..and has done so 1000 times in practice, I can see it being more difficult if he comes on with a floater. Think about them tensing up their bodies ready to catch a cannon ball...then he comes up with a nerf. On the other hand...that's what they are getting paid for. Oops.
It's amazing how Russell was able to complete 60% (2nd in SEC) of his passes and finished 3rd in the SEC in passing efficiency with such lousy mechanics. He's far from being polished, but he must be doing something right...
He completed a lot of passes using very good mechanics. He also threw a lot of bad balls off of his back foot and when jumping in the air. Don't ask me. Ask an NFL scout. I don't know, maybe he's changing the laws of physics and I'm being too hard on him.
I think people focus too much on the mechanics, especially in college. There are many examples of good college QBs with poor mechanics ... see Vince Young. I think Russell needs to work more on his decision making and mental aspect of the game. The NFL can teach him about mechanics when he gets there.
Let's see what VY does in the pros first. The "we can fix his mechanics" deal didn't pan out for Quincy Carter here in Dallas. That was a painful time.
Well yes it can be different, but as you say - it's their job to catch it regardless & I don't think we're expecting too much. I put more blame on the receivers than JaMarcus.
