1. while the guy is inconsistent and most often its during the first part of the game, i was happy to see the guy improving not only his checkdowns but he audibled almost half his plays. sometimes it wasnt correct but thats the beginning to developing a solid qb.

JR is 9-1 as a starter. im not sure what more ppl can ask out of someone at this position.

people who slam this guy for every mistake either dont watch much football or simply lives in an LSU vacuum. hes not great, hes not free of mistakes but hes a winner.

hes had how many come from behind wins and even a couple he didnt start.

one thing is a constant in all top qbs in the nfl or college. they are winners and they play their best when the game is on the line. there's no doubt jr has icewater in his veins which leads to many mistakes because he doesnt think twice that he isnt able to complete most any play. theres almost no play hes incapable of making except maybe outrunning a defender.

im not sure ive ever seen such a young qb make such critical throws when the game is on the line as he as. 10 starts and hes had about 5 game winning throws when trailing? more if you count 2 in one game to tie in regulation then another in ot last night.

the idiots here who try to slam him or claim people think JR is perfect and without flaws are clueless. its a progression and this is the beginning. rome wasnt built in a day and jr has actually carried this team when it matters most. this guy is not matt mauck. hes not gonna NOT LOSE GAMES. he's gonna win games on his uncanny talent and has. his inexperienced head is gonna lead to mistakes in this development. what do you expect. its common sense.

not to mention he did this last night with a bum wrist and shoulder. props to jr for coming through when games are on the line. signs we have ourselves a real winner and a true tiger.

im enjoying watching this kid develop into something truly special.

....and for those who can't see it, I almost feel sorry for you.
  2. Agreed, he'll be pretty serious a year from now.
  3. "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to tirk again."
  4. Look, Rohan struggled early as a young qb and he certainly put it all together before he left. G-Marcus will too.
  5. Aw, come on and learn to love reality! Russell still doesn't know the offense. He continues to throw late and he homes in on receivers like a laser pointer, giving the db's all the clues they need to learn where the ball is going. Russell continues to make mistakes that most quarterbacks would have eliminated this deep into the season. Quit making excuses for the guy. The Tigers are winning despite Russell, not because of him.

What I saw when the game was on the line was a couple of plays where the receivers stepped up and caught some pretty shoddy balls that Russell threw. I saw guys picking up his slack. I saw a lotta luck with Auburn missing that field goal; I didn't see JR leading anyone to the promised land. Saturday's game was one of the most pathetic displays by a Tiger quarterback I have ever witnessed.

It was obvious to me that Russell wasn't the best quarterback on the field Saturday night. His opposite number from Auburn was better- he made better decisions and showed more leadership than Russell and if it wouldn't be for that missed FG, he would have been on the winning side Saturday.

As for your comment about JR not being Matt Mauck, you're right, he'll never be that good because he hasn't the command of the offense, or the capacity for leadership and improvisation that Mauck showed during his tenure as Tiger quarterback. Lest you forget, Mauck was at the helm when the Tigers won the NC - a pretty good feat for any quarterback, don't you think?
  6. Wasn't that Nukem guys' first name Dick? I may be wrong, but I think it was Dick.
  7. Yes, and right now JR is on the way to having a record just as good at Matt. And JR is a redshirt soph. while Matt was 38 years old or so.

Guys like you get me sick to by stomach with your posts. You show and utter lack of class by blasting a young QB who has lead us to more come from behind victories, shown his resolve, is a great leader who does have the confidence of the team behind him. He's 9-1 as a starter.

None of the passes that were dropped Saturday were the result of passes thrown too hard. Half of his passes were to second and third receivers, so the focusing in on one receiver stuff is pure crap.

His performance Saturday was one of the better instances of QB play not one of the worse, a QB with a hurt hand and wrist sucking it up and leading his team to victory over our biggest rival in an important SEC tussle. The WR's have let him down much more than they have picked up the slack, as you say. They are having a hard time getting open, not running the correct routes and dropping several balls that put JR and the offense behind the 8 ball over and over again.
  8. Huh ?

I thought I saw two well-thrown TD passes dropped in the late moments of the game. But, I'd been drinkin' a little.
  9. JR was off in the 1st half because his arm and shoulder are still hurt. The guy is a true gamer, stepping up and playing hurt like a real football player. It was OBVIOUS that he was hurt when he only zipped 1 or 2 passes in the game, those that he absolutely had to zip in there.

As cajdav indicated, most of the dropped balls were not thrown too hard. In fact, I place some blame on the coaches here because they started this "slide catching" thing (which IMO is a bunch of crap). Receivers should be catching the ball with their hands, especially when JR was clearly throwing softer on Sat. Try asking Brett Favre to soften up his throws...

As for receivers, cajdav has hit it out of the park again. Route running has been disappointing. With the speed we have, we should be getting separation, but just don't seem to be getting the job done. That's one place we clearly need to be working on in practice this week.
  10. I have total confidence in JR. He has a physical presence that says he's in charge and in control. JR has never lost a game for LSU so to say we win in spite if him is just ignorant. When the game is on the line, I want Russell out there.
The backup QB is always the most popular player. Especially to the clueless.
