1. I took a break from watching the LSU game so I could go in the yard and work on my chipping. You never know, golf may be a lucrative career lol. Anyway, I'm listening on the radio and I love how JH gets so dramatic when something bad happens. It's priceless. It's like the Hindenburgh just went down. Gill bunted into a double play and Hawthorne goes " Good GOD he bunted in to a double play". I thought it was great. You know he's a fan cuz his emotions come and go with the team. He's awesome. I was waiting to hear, " OOOO the humanity". I mean I know anyone whose on the radio is famous for having an ism. You know like a Jim Hawthornism is "my o my" or "my heavens". I'm sure I have some Isms that people notice and so does everyone. Oh, by the way, great ball game we have going. the two starters were solid. Man, Robertson may have proved his worth with Bama. Only his second start and he pitched well.
  2. I think it was more like "OH MY GOD...He bunted into a double play." Well now we are in extra innings...
  3. He's priceless though.
  4. I love cheese
  5. Say what you will about Jim... I love him dearly, and will miss him when his days as Voice of the Tigers are over, but Charles Hannagriff's emotion and excitement is head and shoulders above Hawthorne's. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm younger and I feel that Hannagriff's emotion and explosiveness is simply more energetic. But, I doubt it, I always loved Jim's emotion too. I still get goose bumps when I hear the Warren Morris HR or the Blue Grass Miracle. The thing is though, Charlie gets as excited over the little things (i.e. a simple basehit) as Jim does with huge, game winning plays. They're both great Tiger fans and are both awesome in their own ways!!
  6. I know Jim gets dinged sometimes both here and elsewhere, but I think the guy's golden.

Sure, his voice isn't in, say, John Ferguson territory, but I think he does a great job. :thumb:
  7. hah i love the guy and Hanagriff, too.

Jim-"It's hit hard, it can go a long ways, and its caught by the right fielder for the 2nd out of the inning"
  8. This post wasnt intended to be a knock on Jim. I think he's great. Well, he's not the most solid announcer, but he is the voice of the Tigers. I'd take him of Hannigrif any day of the week. He is head and shoulders and another set of shoulders over Hanni. I think LSU could do better after JH then to stay with Hanni.
  9. i wasn't knocking Jim...i think he's a GREAT announcer. I was just giving a reason why he's so great...the "hawthorne homer"
  10. I had the opportunity a couple of months ago to meet Jim Hawthorne in person. He is a prince of a guy, a fine gentleman. I've been married to the same woman for over 30 years and I told him that I had honestly listened to his voice more than that of my wife, in gest. But got to thinking about what I'd said and damn if it probably ain't true.

Most of you guys are too young to remember John Ferguson, he was a fine announcer as well. "...and the Tigers jumped over a snake on that one."
