I assume you're just inquiring about the team, not the school. On offense, we have a redshirt freshman QB, that we hope has the talent, but has un fortunately had some injuries (shoulder I believe) in the past. Meager was supposed to compete with Joey Byerly for the starting QB position, but Joey apparently forgot to go to class. So Meager did not really have much competetion. His backup is a true freshman. Its hard to tell what Meager is capable of, he hasnt developed much so far. We have two stud RBs, Patrick Cobbs (SR) and Jamario Thomas (SO), who led the nation in rushing the past 2 years. To most of us it, its a dream to have those two in our backfield. Its something you only see on the PS2 or XBOX. Unfortunately, we have seen them in the same backfield only a couple of times. Cobbs has been getting most of the time, probably trying to help improve his draft stock. However, when your gameplan is one dimensional, when the defense stacks 9 in the box, and when you don't allow your QB to audible, it usually negates anything PC can do, even though he is incredibly talented. He just set the career rushing yards at NT. Thomas may even be better than Cobbs. But something has been wrong this year. We think he is still injured, its possible that his hammy is still affecting him. We have an NFL potential reciever in Johnny Quinn who is a junior. It may be hard to see his NFL talent due to the lack of a passing game. We have never had much of one, but he and Scott Hall, who graduated last year, were awesome together. If you get a qb who has confidence in himself, and the ability to get the ball to the reciever, Quinn can be awesome. Meager has not had much time to throw, and the recievers haven't been able to get on their routes. The pass blocking just isnt there, and a large part of that is due to having 8-9 men in the box and blitzing. When Meager has been able to throw, there have been times when he hasnt been able to hit the broadside of a barn. The O-line is puzzling. We have a couple of young players, but most of them have been here for at least a year. They just are not getting it done. The defense has shown signs of improvement. I think we run your typical 4-3. The D is pretty young. I think all of our LBs are new, as our secondary. They have gotten better as the year progresses, but we still seem to have a problem tackling. There are times when they seem to go for the Roy Williams type hit, and sometimes they just forget to wrap up. One of our corners, though, is around 5'9. He used to be a reciever, but for some reason, he got moved to CB. Alot of us are still trying to firgure that one out. Most of us are not unhappy with the team. We feel that we have some potential and things will get better. The problem many of us have is with our coaching staff and the gameplan. Its pretty much known ahead of time by the other team that we love to run. If its a 3rd and long, you can bet your house it will be a run up the middle. We also do not allow the QB to call audibles, nor do we make adjustments during the game. Its been the same conservative gameplan for 8 years. Dickey plays not to lose insead of playing to win. We feel that its catching up to him. We tend to be undisciplined. NT will take delay of game penalties because the call goes through the OC and the HC before going to the QB. NT will use at least one TO during the first quarter on offense. And, unfortunately, the hallmark of a Dickey coached team is the unsportsmanlike penalties. Trust me, they will be there. Its not a reflection on the players, its a reflection on the lack of discipline by the staff. Don't get me wrong, we are pleased with how far the team has come the past 4 years, and we love the increased attendance and exposure. But many of us want to raise the bar. We want to keep winning the SBC until the CUSA comes calling. We want to compete with and pass the mid majors, like La Tech, Tulsa, and UTEP. However, we feel that those teams we should be on par with, or better than, are passing us. And most of all, and possibly the biggest contributor of the mid majors passing us is that we dont win OOC games. That is another hallmark of dickey. we don't win OOC games. I think his OOC record in his 8 years here is 7 and 42. Its pathetic. We dont expect to beat teams like LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. But we want to see competition. We play these blood for money games every year, but we want to see an aggessive gameplan, and we want the players to have a bad ass- come and get it attitude. Thats pretty much a summary of NT this year. Its been a disappointing year, but we are hoping that the last half picks up, and we hope that next year sees improvement.
