What will happen: The 2006 Rutgers team could win this game, but can the 2007 edition? The Scarlet Knights are not the same team on defense or in the trenches, at least so far, but that’ll change in one big performance. From the coaching staff on down, Rutgers believes it hasn’t played anywhere close to its capabilities. That’ll change on Thursday night, as Rutgers will play like the team many expected it’d be with an opportunistic defense that’ll grab the momentum early and never let go. CFN Prediction: Rutgers 27 … South Florida 20 ... Line: South Florida -2.5
I don't have anything against South Florida (USF) but I do against the BCS. It is a joke. With all due respect to USF because they did win the games but they beat Auburn in overtime and Auburn turned it over 5 times. USF's average starting field position in the 2nd half was Auburn's 28 yard line. And they still went to overtime. West Virginia turned it over like 6-8 times too. With that said, at least USF beat 2 presumably good teams. Ohio State and Boston College have beaten no one. Just like last year when Herbstreet and the others were calling for a rematch between MICH and OSU (because they were the best 2 teams) (BS as Florida proved) the damn weakling conferences will get thier shot. Just like last year (FL vs. OSU) LSU would beat the living crap out of any of those teams. Year in and year out USC, OK, OSU and whoever else would get thier a--es handed to them (or at least lose a few) if they had to play in the SEC. The BCS is a joke and until a playoff exists the BS will continue.
What exactly would be different? These same teams would be fighting for a playoff spot anyways. How would it take anything away from the regular season games? I'm assuming they would have some sort of BCS system to pair the playoff teams anyways.
exactly right.....An 8 team playoff would require you lose one game or less and sometimes 2. Yes, you could slip one time but I believe LSU is way better than the 3 teams ranked above them today. But if it ended today LSU would be out and hat's BS. The reality is the teams from the various conferences would have to play. The conferences outside of the SEC don't want this because they would be exposed 9 out of 10 years as the pretenders they are. I'd bet that at least 1/2 the time, 2 SEC teams would make the finals. The other conferences would be exposed that the weak as pond water pretenders they are.
not really, I know if USF made it to the playoffs, they would get knocked off pretty quick which would make this games meaningless because it's a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" which means i would watch baseball tonight rather than Rutgers and USF. Also, towards the end of the season, when teams knew they had a secured spot in the playoffs, they would rest their big time guys so they would be rested for the playoffs making for dull games. But, with the BCS, there is so many implications that an otherwise meaningless game has, that everyone will tune in to watch it. Which exposes smaller schools to a national audience and makes more teams relevant. This way, every team is playing for just two spots, as opposed to playing for 16 for a playoff.
And don't forget Syracuse upset Notre Dame. Syracuse was horrible that year and I think their coach lost his job after that season. They came up big in their last game of the season at home against an Irish trying to salvage a winning season. How sweet it was to watch that game. Notre Dame wins and the Hawaii game would not have mattered. What a crazy day of football.
