This should be an interesting chess match. Both of them know each others tendancies and such. Who has the edge here and why?
LSU has an adv... a huge one, actually imo... Muschamp loves to blitz and bring the house JR has torched every blitz he's seen the 1st 2 games. Beating Zona 45-3 far outweighs beating Moo. U. 34-0, or whatever their final was, imo
Sadly, Muschamp. He learned from Saban, and I'm sure that defense is going to be ready- not to say that we can't beat them, 'cause we can- and the shifty, audible-based D he runs is nye-unstoppable in the NCAA. Besides, who do you think has more predictable play-calling? I called 50% of our plays tonight.
On Muschamp, its hard for me to say how much of our success in 03 he was actually responsible for. It seems to me it was Saban's defense, and Nick wanted a younger guy with lots of enthusiasm who needed a chit on his resume that said DC, but who would just work with Nick, do what Nick wanted, learn something in the process, and I think it worked to perfection. That said, I have zero insight into the inner workings of that staff, and Will could have done it all by himself for all I know. He may chafe that he didn't get more credit while he was here, and have a huge revenge factor for Baton Rouge. But, if it goes the way I think, as is paragraph 1, I give the advantage to Jimbo, although only a very slight advantage. If Nick called the shots in 03, Jimbo may have very little insight to the Muschamp psyche.
I think both will try to get a feel for each other early on. Each other knows what their tendencies are so I expect some of the strengths of both coordinators to be negated.
I say Fisher, because I don't think that Auburn has had time to fully understand Muschamps defense in only 2 games.
Two things. This Pellini defense is looking like it may even end up being better than Saban's defense. They are freakish and hit even harder. Our DB's are serious hit men, and Zenon appears to be the heir apparent to one Corey Webster. Landry is just a headhunter. Secondly, we had a perfect balance between passing and throwing last night. At one point in the 2nd half, we had 230 yards passing and running. Plus, just like last week, I don't think we opened up the playbook all that much after we got ahead last night.
A bold statement, and one that may be true. We should watch this through the course of the season, and if its true, be able to say it and not just deify old Nick. The true test comes against top tier competition, and consistency over time. Lets see what January brings, but I hope we get to come back and talk about this point. Thanks Stacey!
I agree, when you are torching a team early in the game, and you have a huge game the next week, you play vanilla, trap right, trap left, 10yard outs, easy plays get in a groove, get some experience for your players and backups, and don't get anybody hurt. I think the offensive gameplan will be a little different next week, but we will still try and establish the run first with our stable of backs.
