Since when did everybody become obsessed with winning national championships... This is rediculious. All of a sudden, we're a terrible team, with a terrible coach - all anybody cares about is getting the Win... And once we have the win, then it's the stats - we gotta beat the opponent by 50 so that we can move up in the polls. F*#k the polls! What about having fun and enjoying the game. What did LSU fans do during the DiNardo years... just go home and whack off every saturday night to feel better about losing????

I can't speak for everyone, but during those years we usually got drunk and bitched about DiNardo until Sunday morning. The support for the team was different then, you had less people going to games and plenty of fans found other things to do around halftime. As a student I was at every single home game, and kept every single ticket writing the score on them. Today it seems different, everything is very results driven. It seemed fans supported the players back then, yet were against the coaching staff. All in all our expectation were a lot lower.

I don't understand boo'ing against your own school at college sporting events. I remember when being ranked was a major step for LSU, now that is not good enough. There is nothing wrong with questioning the games or debating LSU football theory, we don't need to be mindless drone cheerleaders, but in general you shouldn't hope a player gets hurt or wish the team loses to satisfy some strange personal hang up.

I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with winning a national championship. The original point of this thread was that close games make for good football, and I agree.

I simply pointed out that my loyalty to LSU supercedes my desire to see "good football" in that sense, particularly against inferior opponents. Sadly, we have to impress the yahoos (voters) around the country who have only a superficial knowledge of the different teams and games around the country if we are to remain viable as BCS contenders.

Again, it won't matter much this year, but it is "the way it is" now. Frankly it is to the team's credit that the fans are able to consider such things. In the future the coaches and players must recognize opportunities to impress said yahoos and put teams away whenever possible.

Just a comment about the system in place and how it has affected my perception of the game, not a comment at all about the team, per se.

Oh, and I grew up in BR knowing winning LSU football, then went to LSU in 1988, the beginning of many lean years. Guys I played with and against in highschool wasted their talent under freakin Hallman et al. If not for the whiskey and the coeds, I'm not sure how I would have made it through!
