Well, I for one can cetainly say that after last season, I had very high hopes and had NO idea how young this team was really going to be. It's been great watching all of their progress though. As much as I hate it, I love these close games. Oregon St., Auburn, Florida, and Troy. Admit it. It hasn't always been pretty, but when we get the win in a close one... It's so much better and exciting than it could ever be if we had blown them out. Of course I want to see our football team do good and win every game, but the close calls, great games and tough competition are the reason I love this sport so much. Even if we don't do as well as we wanted to this season, it sure is exciting!

Agreed. We are 5-2, not 0-7 as some here would have us believe. You have a good attitude Parso. It's about enjoying the season and having a winning team to pull for. We have a solid chance to win every time out and I look forward to every game. Come Monday, we have well paid people in charge of fixing problems. We as fans have our own jobs to do. Let's let them do theirs and, on the weekend, have a little fun.

    I'll say this . . . it's not boring.

I'm not sure if it is age or what, but I honestly care more about the "W" than the stats page.

While I would love to blow those three teams out the close games have been exciting. I don't think I would've had as much fun at the Oregon State and Florida game had we won by 20 points.

Yeah, they're fun to watch. But man, my heart can't take these close games much longer. I thought I was going to collapse on our final drive in the Swamp. It'd be nice if we could've just completely whiped Troy off the field. But I guess I'll take a W in whatever semblance offered. Nice work for the Tigers. They seem to have a knack for giving the enemy some points and then smashing their hopes by coming back to win it. :)

I too am a fan of the close games, as any impartial true football fan would be.

BUT, in this day and age, W's aren't enough, and I am decidedly NOT impartial. The system is such that impressing the voters is the ONLY THING that matters. You must put teams away early and decisively. Case in point: our victory last night and we drop two spots in the polls. Everyone says "just keep on winning and the rest will take care of itself." I call Bullshiit.

This year LSU is not in a position to ultimately have it matter much. Finishing 15th or 8th won't change our bowl selection, only the SEC ranking and our reputation as good travelers will come into play when that decision is made.

But I like to think that in the years to come we will again be in a position to play for it all, or at least for a BCS game invite. When that day arrives, exciting games could be our downfall. . .

That's a good point. But at the end of the day if you are 11-0 and belong to a BCS conference, chances are you will be in the one of the top 2 spots. For all intents and purposes the way you got that 11-0 record means nothing, as long as you have the W's.

We tend to put too much weight into the "last" performance of a team. A season is about the entire resume, all season long. Could a team handle the pressure of being highly ranked? Were they able to pull out of bad games with a win? All of these things are seen in the bigger picture of the entire season. My point is that UGA didn't look like a top 10 team against ARK, yet they do not deserve to be thrown out of the top 10. AU barely beat LSU at home, yet I don't hold that against them and feel they deserve to be ranked very high. I really feel you have to look at the whole body of work when thinking about this stuff.

I know this . . . when we walk off the field after our bowl game this year, I won't care that we barely got by Troy . . . I'll just be happy with the win. If the next season we win all our games and each and every game is a nailbiter, I won't care because in the end all that matters is the W's and L's. Stats are great for preseason rankings and future team outlook . . . it means nothing when the ball is in play and you are trying to win.

Tell that to OU, Miami and Auburn (2 of these 3) at the end of the season. Might want to also tell Wisconsin, as it's not likely they will lose either.

With the human polls having so much bearing on the BCS results, it's how you win that becomes as important as winning itself.

I may not have to, no teams has looked unbeatable this season. All of the remaining unbeaten teams have looked both outstanding and horrible. Yet, they have been able to overcome poor performances to stay unbeaten.

I understand your point, however the last time we had that problem it was 11 years ago and the BCS was created to solve that problem. Just let the season play out, no of us can say for sure that all of these undefeated teams will remain undefeated until and through December. Upsets are happening every week, that's college football.

Then again, I'm just a college football fan. No one pays me to create formulas to decide which undefeated team is better than others. I'm not paid to write articles on the subject and I have zero votes in the human polls. I've never been called by the NCAA to solve this possible problem. I doubt anyone else here has been asked to solve the problem either.

To me, wins are more important than stats. It's just an opinion. To a lesser extent conference power plays a part in my personal decision as to who should be higher ranked. I don't get hung up on point spreads or what the "experts" tell me is supposed to happen. I just enjoy watching the games and how teams move through the season. Passing yards, rushing yards, and defensive stats mean absolutely nothing if you can't win the games. I have yet to see a team given a NC for having great stats. Before anything else you have to have the wins.

So, I don't care if OU, Miami, SC, and Auburn like what I have to say. If all 4 teams go undefeated, I would like to see AU and OU compete for the NC since I feel the SEC and BIG12 are better conferences. I could careless about the arguements coming from Miami and SC in that one possible outcome. If it doesn't happen that way, the sun will still come up in the morning and everyone will start the next day with the goal of reaching the NC (LSU included).

the most important thing coming from all of these close games will come into play sometime in the next year or 2 or three.

all these young players will be in a position to win huge games very late, with potential championships on the line, espcecially in 05 and 07...

our whole team will be clutch. they will be calm under pressure, mostly because of the experience in close games they are having this year.
