Not many people can be successful running the ball with 9 or 10 in the box. The Ravens could during Jamal Lewis' 2000 yard season but not many other people can. Having a competent passing game is always important...
I don't believe they're trying to overlook LSU's running game, rather implying that they need to find a passing game or else the offense will be too predictable with run run run all the time.
Well then, every team above us in their power rankings with the exception of USC and Michigan is pretty predictable.
Ohio State? Sorry, just because they're below average in both rushing and passing doesn't make them unpredictable. Tennessee? You guys have more uncertainty at QB than us, at least we have a pretty good idea who our starter is. Miami? They have a new QB and a new RB, plus all of their receivers outside of one seem to not have the ability to catch the football yet.
So ESPN.com says LSU will have to throw the ball to have success. ESPN Magazine says it doesn't matter who LSU's starting QB is, all he will be doing is handing off. What do we learn from this? We learn ESPN is clueless where LSU is concerned. Further evidence of this (from the ESPN mag again) is the reference to USC going after its third consecutive BCS championship. Huh?
I agree. Everyone knows that the Tigers have the ability to run all over the place. But, this is that whole QB thing again that gets extremely old, but is def important. The QB's have to make the team 3D or this team will never see its ultimate potential. If they can make the passing game a bigger factor there is no reason this team cant win 9 or 10 games. I do think that people can get away with being 1D, ala the Ravens headed the year they won, but playing in a toughie like the SEC, throwing is vital. So, like always, the world is not against you guys. They are just stating facts. Maybe it could have been worded different.:geauxtige
