I thought the dumbest play you have ever seen (college or pro) would be an interesting thread. For me it was an Eagle's game several years ago. I don't recall who they were playing against but the Eagles was ahead by just a few points and had the ball with just a few seconds left on the clock. All they had to do was take a knee. But the head coach (don't recall his name but he has disappeared into oblivion) sends in a running play. The ball is fumbled, the oppoent picks it up and runs it back for a game-winning touchdown. The coach if fired immediately after the game. I defy anyone to come up with a dumber play.

Yeah that is pretty dumb....The play where Aaron Brooks was backpedaling and was about to get sack so he decided to throw the ball at one of his 0-line was pretty funny. I think it was Gandy........I dont know what he thinks sometimes.

In Philly it was known as the "The Miracle at the Meadowlands," and in NY as simply "The Fumble."

It was the Philadelphia - NY Giants game on Nov. 19, 1978 at the Meadowlands. The Giants lead 17-12 and the Eagles didn't have any timeouts. With 31 secs left in the game, Giants QB Joe Pisarcik tried to handoff to Larry Csonka (my idol growing up when he played with the Dolphins). Bad handoff, Herm Edwards (now Jets coach) picks it up and scores. Eagles won 19-17 and Giants coach John McVay was fired.

What a bonehead play..... such professionals. [IMG]

By the way, does anyone remember this game. Who was the opponent and the unfortunate head coach?

Could Josh Booty's attempted run/leap in Tuscaloosa make the list of nominations here?

Early Doucet taking a knee on the 1 in Athens last year...

Not really a "play", but still the dumbest call I've ever seen. It was a few years ago, the Detoit Lions went to OT (I don't remember who they were playing). Anyway, Detroit won the toss and elected to kick off rather than take the ball. The other team promptly went down the field in 5 or 6 plays and scored. Game over, Detroit never saw the ball in OT.

Not a play, but the play calling in the infamous Jamie Howard Auburn game, my god why were we throwing the ball with that lead still baffles me today!!!
