1. I was rabid duck hunter up here in NC from abou 10 to mid-thirties. Then one day, pfft..just did not want to shoot anymore. I am pro hunting, love reading about duck hunting seeing the pics, and will eat one in a minute. Blood must follow the knife, however.

Anyway, how do you boys deal with snakes, hunting in the warmth? I would probably spend all my time scanning for spread snappers rather than looking for incoming ducks.
  2. What does that mean?

As for the snakes I don't recall ever seeing any. Bigger problem is risk of having a nutria or rat in the pit blind- always shine a light before dropping down.

I used to hunt duck a lot. Some years dam near every day even if it was just a 30 minute hunt in a rice field behind my house. Since I lost my father a few years back I haven't hunted ducks one time. My daughter's BF wants me to go with him one morning so I probably will. I'll post picks if we do any good.
  3. Had one of my labs get a taste for nutrarat. Actually had to shoot one off her once. Was porting over a dam and one swam by, she got at it before we could stop her. She never gave up that battle. Would veer off a duck any time she marked a nutra. Actually retrieved a baby once. We shoot them no matter what, but after her only after a hunt.
  4. I'm a snake magnet. I've got some pretty wild stories. Worst one kept me out of the woods for several years. Came very close to dying that day.
  5. I have not had trouble with snakes thus far........knock on wood.

I have only seen a few on the levies.
  6. thats what she said.

Slow day this Sat. 1 gad. I can only think of 2 reasons why we aren't seeing many ducks:

    1. The drought has left no place for the birds to roost on the rice fields on the coastal prarie of TX.
    2. We just have not received a large wave of ducks from up north yet.
*could be a combination of the 2, but its frustrating for sure.
  8. Puppy looks happy :)
  9. Maybe not enough cold weather yet? There are still mosquitos around here.

  10. Yes, I think that is why they have not pushed down yet. Hope we get some cold fronts soon.
