I'm not exactly sure of the exact dates, but in the late 1800's, the U.S. gov't decide to renege on another of the treaties it made with the Five Civilized tribes, after forcing them to move, ala the Bataan Death March on the Trail of Tears and open up the Indian Territories via a series of Land Runs.
The proper procedure for going out to stakeout a claim was for everyone to line up and at the firing of a shotgun, they would make a mad dash to wherever they wanted land and who got to it first staked out a legal claim. These people who did it legally were called Boomers, having set out upon the firing of the shotgun.
However, there were groups of people who snuck out into the areas and staked out their claims to the choicest pieces of land the day or night before and in many instances murdered those who tried to claim otherwise. Hence these people were called Sooners.
So in reality, a Sooner is nothing more than a common criminal. I would say that this fits in with the history of their football team, especially under the bootlegger himself, Barry Switzer. It hasn't been too long ago that there were dope dealers, rapists, gun toters and I don't know what all ,
Maybe that's how they got those 7 nc's. Am I wrong in any of this, Fly?

What have you got against gun toters? I am not a rapist, dope dealer, killer, thief or mentally deranged but like millions of other law abiding citizens who choose to excersize our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms I am a "gun toter" I'm sure there must be at least a few LSU football players who own guns for the purpose of hunting or recreational shooting. In cities and states where the carrying of a concealed firearm is legally licensed the rates of violent crime have gone down.

I'm not against gun-toters. I've toted a few myself. It's just in the context in which these guys have done it. They've carried concealed weapons (before it was legal) and even shot each other! They've fired their weapons from apartment balconies and just in general acted irresponsiblly and broken the law with them. This is in keeping with their outlaw image.
I do want to say though, as I've stated before, this bunch of OU players here don't fit that label. They are as class a bunch of young men as our Tigers are and Bob Stoops is as class a coach as Nick. Unfortunately for them, they have to play for a fan base which does.

Don't need to preached to any more than we need some OU fan coming over here and calling us dumbasses. The original post was true. No one has refuted it.
