no no no. im not saying sometimes have a seccg if necessary, im saying never have it. i understand the value of it in a league with 12 teams, thats why i think there should be 8 teams in the league.

well how many chances should a team get? lot of teams improve throughout the year, doesnt mean they should be conf champ.

If at the end of the year they are the better team and have done what it takes to put themselves in position to play in the game it does. Now you're not making sense. Do you feel that LSU did not earn the SECC in 2001? Maybe after the game, our guys should have walked over and handed the trophy to TN. I mean, they did have the better conference record and all.

maybe we should've given the trophy to auburn, after all, they were co-champions that year.

stop being such homers. yes, lsu earned the secc, but i dont think lsu should have been given the chance. most years, the reg season champ could lose to any # of other SEC teams at the end of the season. that doesnt mean that other SEC team should be SEC champ. this LSU team would have a reasonable chance of losing to all but 3 SEC teams right now. i think the conference champ should be determined by the overall record in the season and not by one winner take all game at the end. i view this different from the NC because its always hard to compare teams of different conferences without having them play--hence playoff system.

so, i say, take 64 top teams and make 8 conferences (based on geography, not so different from current conferences). then take the champ from each and play 3 game playoff or top two from each and play 4 game playoff. in the latter case, i have no problem with conf championship games and the current conference alignments could be more or less maintained.

    1. There is no such thing as a regular season champion of the SEC
    2. If you win the championship game, you are the SEC champion. Why is that so hard for you to understand?
    3. I don't buy that "reasonable chance of losing to all but 3 SEC teams right now". Who? We beat everyone worth playing, except TN. And even you have to admit that if we played them tomorrow we would win easily. South Carolina? I don't think so. Kentucky? Not going to happen. Georgia will have their chance to beat us in Atlanta. So, if we beat them, are we going to be champions in your eyes? Or would you want to give this one to Auburn, due to the fact that they beat Alabama worse than we did?

    1. there should be.
    2. what? do you have such a short memory that you think the SEC champ has always been decided with a champ game?
    3. what you said is exactly my point. we beat several sec teams in the reg season yet most of them would have a shot a beating us if we played again (UF, Bama, Auburn, Vandy). the only sec teams we are almost certain to beat are Ole Miss, Miss St and UK. if you dont get that, you dont know sec football.
