As far as I'm concerned, teams that don't play in a conference that has a conference championship game are undeserving of a shot at the national championship...

even if having 5 unbeatens from major conferences happens once every hundred years, you HAVE to have a system in place to handle that situation. No one was prepared for what happened in '03. Even after that debacle from the BCS, they still NEVER IMAGINED it would happen again with 3 UNBEATENS instead of teams with 1 loss. But it happened the very next year. We may never see that kind of controversy again in our lifetime, or we may see it next year. Either way, you have to be prepared for the situation.

I don't remeber the guys name, Tragese or something like that, in '03 said there was no way to forsee the #1 team in the Human polls being left out. Which is complete ignorance, because of the difference in the rankings from human to computer. Then to top it off, they take out Quality wins, and SOS from rankings, to even up computers and humans. Quality wins, and SOS would have put AU in game last year.

So if Riggs gets tackled a yard short in OT, this team suddenly looks more like a National Championship team? If R. Bush doesn't push Leinart into the end zone is USC suddenly the 3rd or 4th best team in the country?

the big problem with this opinion, is that conference championship games only recently came about. this was mostly just to bring in money. should conferences that did not decide to add a game be penalized?

the top 64 teams should defect and form 8 8-member conferences (according to geography), no conf champ game and the top two go 4-game playoff.

    there. problem solved.

whatever reasoning the conferences has behind choosing cg or no cg, i think having the game benefits college football. It's the beginning of what everyone wants. A clear cut champion on the field. If USC loses to UCLA, USC wins the tie breaker, even though not all 3 teams met head to head. This will NEVER happen in the SEC for example. ONLY 2 teams can go through regular season un beaten. Any other ties during reg season will be broken by head to head play. Top team from each div. plays for title. NO EXCUSES if you lose the game (OU)
