Saying Pete is a great coach is about like saying a guy is a great driver because he can drive his ferrari REALLY fast...

Yes, he's a good coach but rarely has to prove it with the weak competition in the Pac-10. Just as LSU has very little competition for in-state recruits, USC usually gets their pick from CA...which at 30,000,000 residents gives you quite a few selections. They can add a few out-of-state recruits by bringing in a few "stars" to solicit their commitment. Young, impressionable kids eat that up.

After his whining and negative comments about the Oklahoma/LSU Sugar Bowl, I will never have any respect for him. He reminds me of so many people that I knew in my ten years of living in California...self-absorbed, arrogant asswhipe who looks down on the rest of the country.

Trust me California isn't all it's cracked up to be and the women they like to show on tv are not the norm...and most aren't originally from the "Golden State". If they want to be #1 then hopefully they'll overtake us for the top natural disaster of all time. (Like California falling into the Pacific!)

I hope he makes the same mistake as Spurrier and Saban and flops in the NFL. It's nice to see big egos brought back to reality.

That's the thing. He's already flopped. That's what sucks about the situation. It seems like he'll be there until he retires. If he's not willing to go back to the pro's, where else is he going to go?

this is laughable since you obviously forget how bad fat robinson and others were there for years before petey took over.

petey kicked auburns ass and the hawgs the last 3 years. two of 3 on the road. those are no sec slouches. they often schedule a very good OOC road schedule and beat good teams regularly. Playing an embarrassing Michigan team twice certainly didnt help hurt their image in the bowls. Not as demanding from playing a grinding conference schedule but thats not their doing.

I agree, petey is detestable after his BCS act he pulled in 03, Im just giving a perspective from a recruit and his coaching ability objectively. pretty impressive even though we hate the guy.

yep, hes there forever. I was thinking that when I brought him up that theres no end in sight. while many top teams have coaching carousels, USC has its foot firmly planted on the recruiting throat with a stable HC and a band of merry hookers too boot.

thats a myth somewhat. he was a few games above .500 after 5 seasons or so. today, thats job security and the playoffs.

if i defend petey one more time I may shoot myself. this was never my intent. please stop it people.

I agree that he is a good college coach- anyone who says different has a lot to challenge with the last three #1 recruiting classes and the NC title hunt year in and year out; however; given his 33-31 record in the NFL as you correctly pointed out, he won the Div. Champ the first year, lost the WC playoff game his 2nd, and missed the playoffs his third..........he was a flop and was worse each year. Had he stayed one more year he'd have most likely been well below 500 in 4 years.

I think LSU stands a good chance to be in the NC game. Yes, we will likely lose JR, but MF will step in and I don't think we will miss a beat with him. Also, our schedule favors an 11-1 or even a 12-0 regular season record.
