Seems like he wants to play pro ball pretty bad, hope they insult him with their offer heh.

I was hoping that he would settle down a bit on wanting to play baseball after practices started. Seems he is fitting in nicely with the team and getting more comfortable. But from what my Dad and Wife hear from work, he is still 100% all about baseball and I have come to realize that will never change.

Less than 24 hours until the deadline and still looking good for the Tigers.

Thanks for the link. After reading this I'm sure Chad is a Tiger for this year. This will work much better for him in the long run. It still puzzles me why young guys choose to pass on college for dollar signs. Laron Landry is a great example of if you pick the right college program and play through at least 3 years you have a higher pay off and brighter future in professional sports.

They're not looking that far ahead. All they can see are the dollars being waved in front of their face. They think for the moment.

For every story of a guy who would make more money by going pro early, there are guys who have lost money by stayingg in school. There was one kid in particular I went to high school with who would have been drafted in the first round if he hadn't said he wasn't going pro but going to college. He never made it to the bigs and probably lost millions in the process. It goes both ways. No one can argue Big Baby shouldn't have come back for his junior year. Certainly he lost money doing that. Just as Tyrus may have lost money if he'd stayed. You just never know.

Of course, you have a better chance at success if you go to college but you also have a better chance of being found out so to speak.

It depends on the sport, I think. Honestly, it seems like going to college or staying in college rarely helps a basketball player. The college and pro games are so different that learning one doesn't seem to help that much with the other. The NBA wants raw athleticism while college seems to want more scheme-oriented play. I have no data to back it up, but it seems like the best way to be successful in the NBA is to get into an NBA camp and get NBA coaching as quickly as possible.

Football, obviously, seems to require a lot more coaching and a lot more instruction in the basics and in technique than what you get in high school. The coaching players get in college is essential to success, and the NFL coaches probably don't want to be teaching players the basics of the game they should have gotten at lower levels.

That said, every year you play football is wear and tear on your body, especially if you're a lineman or a running back. If I was a lineman or a running back and wanted to play football for a living, I'd get to the NFL as quickly as possible. If I'm a QB, LB, WR, or DB, maybe I'm not in so much of a hurry.

For baseball, I think you're probably better off getting into the minor leagues as quickly as possible. Start using that wooden bat and playing nearly every day rather than the aluminum bat and more leisurely schedule of college baseball. And if you're a pitcher, and you're really good, you'll probably be abused by college coaches throwing you too often. Of course, your chances of making it to the pros aren't that great once you get to the minor leagues. To me, if you're being offered enough money that you can live in the minors for five years and then afford college if you don't make it, you're probably better off going pro. If you're being offered a piddly amount, go to college on a scholarship instead.
