What are our chances of landing this kid due to

    1) his brother's situation with the coaching staff at LSU
    and
    2) his status as a MLB prospect?

Also, knowing he is a big Miami fan, can anyone give the gist of the article detailing UM's lack of communication with him?

I think # 2 will hurt us more. If it weren't for baseball, I think we would be a lock...

Most people assume he'll commit to LSU, but go pro in baseball. So it doesn't look too promising for actually getting him on the field, but then again people said the same thing about Jared Mitchell. Hopefully our new baseball coach is recruiting him as well & we can keep him here. I'd put our chances at 40% based on a hunch.

let me just say that i'm proud that this forum is not filled with all the vitriol about rahim and his political views.

man that stuff is hard to read.

but if chad jones doesn't go pro he'll be a tiger.

I'm just worried that even if he doesn't go pro in baseball this season, and wants to enroll in school, that he'll chose to go to USC and play two sports there....all within driving distance for the Angels, Dodgers and any other scout for a visiting team, to check him out as the season goes along.

    That's my concern.:(

we already talked about all of it, but back when he first changed his name.

we don't have all of the newbies like that other forum.

Rahim is free to do what he wants and feel like he watns - I went through a lot of changes at that time in my life and experimented with all kinds of things and ideas. No harm there...he's handling a touchy subject well enough to stay out of the public's eye despite the advice he's getting.

I think he'll want to see his brother (along with his dad) at LSU, and besides the family issue the situation for Chad at LSU at safety is better than any situation in the country.

Of course he's free to do what he wants, but his attitude towards authority in general is not going to help his playing situation. I think the kid is good enough to be sharing time at D-end this year as evidenced in his play during garbage time this year.

I don't know about that. You'd figure that Steltz and McCray would be starting next year.... also guys like Coleman and Giddens would be in the mix.

Keron Gordon has disappeared under Miles.

Well if the two options are USC and LSU, there is no doubt that the depth chart is better for him here. USC is sick at safety.

Jones could easily get playing time next year how Pelini rotates, and then Steltz is gone and despite how much I like McCray, Jones is in another league talent wise. He has the attitude too, could be starting next year possibly, but has a very good shot his 2nd year in the program especially since he could play either position.
