9 years... 3 NCAA tournament appearances... If a football coach did this he would be swinging by his neck from a goalpost... Would we keep a football coach who could only make 3 bowls in 9 years... since 2 were first round exits you could say those bowls are the Houston or Independence Bowls... One of those made the sweet 16, so you could give him a Peach or Cotton Bowl... If a baseball coach made the post season 3 times in 9 years.. only once getting past the regional.. would he still be around? And I dont want to hear anything about sanctions... Brady's best year was his third..
he needs to start winning .... lets see how far LSU goes in the NCAA if they can get there. :geauxtige
My guess would be that no one really cares about basketball hence the extended leash. I like LSU basketball and keep up with it but I think thats the simple, straight-forward reason
I agree with that. The only griping you hear about Brady is on the internet boards and talk shows from losers who have no other life. The rest of the population either doesn't care or thinks Brady is doing OK. It's not like we won a few NCs and generated a lot of interest from the casual fans (like baseball). I consider myself a fan of LSU basketball, but, it's not like I'm consumed with it. I was in Shreveport last night and my hotel didn't have Cox, so I didn't see the game. I read in the paper that they lost and I was disappointed, but there are about 20-25 more games to play, I'll just wait and see how they do next time out. If it turns out that this team sucks then I'll move on to other things. In the meantime, the bashers can amuse themselves by fantasizing about what big time coach we can get to come to this hotbed of college hoops.
I think the NIT would be considered the lesser bowls in your analogy... Anyway...you are forgetting he has only been coaching outside of probation for 3 years now. I'll give him this year and next to develop this young team. Hell...we may make some noise this year.
You basically just documented how you are a fairweather fan. I guess that's ok. To each his own. But, there are a lot of real fans who follow every LSU sport that expect and want to strive for a certain level of success. 3 NCAAs in 9 years doesn't meet those expectations. Hell, we made 10+ appearances in a row in the not so distant past. LSU should strive for more. I would say that basketball fans at LSU outnumber baseball fans by 3 to 1 at least. I'm probably being generous. There is more interest in basketball than you think. And the recruiting base in the state is actually very good. And it's not just internet boards and talk shows where people are questioning Brady. I've had many discussions with different people recently where that was discussed. It's pretty unanimous that people have a SEVERE doubt that Brady can get the program to a level where it is a perennial tournament participant.
And that number is incredibly few compared to those football fans, which was my point...hence why Brady gets a lot longer to do things than a football coach would.
IMHO, Brady will be around as long as Bertman is... I grew up watching more LSU basketball than football, watching Naketa Wilson miss one from the freethrow line at the buzzer in a final four loss to Indiana... always like ricky blanton because he was the randon white guy who came in and nailed three pointers at clutch moments... the days of Shaq and Chris Jackson... I grew cheering for the Celtics.. Admiring the skill level at which the game was played.. today basketball mostly sucks... I enjoy watching LSU play because they are just a bunch of kids, underdogs against the big boys but always with a chance to pull it out...
