And I just watched the "Schembechler Years" last night. He was most proud that, when the doc told him to "get away from the game or die", there wasn't a major upheaval to find a replacement... most all his assistants were retained. Also, in the 90's, I owned a condo down at Boca Grande, Florida. The coach and his wife also had one there. They rode around the island on their bikes... I never had any conversations with him, but when I'd see him in a store or something, I'd just say "Hi, coach". He'd nod. He did see me in an IOWA shirt once. He said, "Iowa???" I said, "always a Hawkeye". He responded, "good enough". (that was the depth of our conversation) He was definitely "good enough"!! rip, coach.
Hawker, his response to you showed the essence of the man. You showed strong conviction in your team and he acknowleged you for that, and respected it wholeheartedly. Pretty cool indeed.
bo was overrated.. never won a national championship... kind of like les miles at lsu.. he'll win a bunch of games but he'll never win a crystal ball..
You're missing the point and disrespecting a man who is the essence of what college football is all about. He was NOT overrated. He was a great coach and will always be remembered as such.
