1. That is one of the quotes from a congressman just now.
  2. The administrators like the bowl money without the extra games that a playoff would create.

Coaches like the practice time bowl games give them ... it's like spring practice to them. Young players get a lot of reps. That woud not happen if a team was preparing for the playoffs right now.
  3. I bet if you caught a coach on his own and without a tape recorder in your hand he'd tell you a different story. Off the record of course. Their whole lifes, before Div 1, they had playoffs and I bet they liked them.
  4. Not sure about that. Coaches of the top programs may want a playoff, but you have to remember that there are 117 teams and the majority of these coaches realize they have no shot at making a college playoff system. They can hope, but they know the reality. Many of these coaches just focus on winning their conference and making it to a bowl game.
  5. You're close, salty....... especially on the "money" part. The issue is this:

It's not an issue of BCS, a one-plus alternative, or a playoff system (with or without the Bowls), or the impact to academics. Division II functions quite well with a playoff system and manages to circumvent all of these "smokescreen" obstacles that the University Presidents keep throwing out.

The issue is money ..... or rather, it's the distribution of the money. Currently the pot is only split among the BCS institutions/conferences, not the entire 117 D-I members of the NCAA. A playoff would change the distribution and significantly dillute the existing pool of money.

Until such time that the University Presidents can be assured of bigger net proceeds, they will not support an NCAA sanctioned playoff, one that would legally require conformity to antitrust legislation ..... one that would require an equal split among all member institutions.

It would be very easy to incorporate the existing Bowls into any playoff system proposed.
  6. They are gonna take away USUCKS paper :crystal: !!!:hihi: :hihi:
No but seriously they would probably take away LSU's before that ever happened!
It would be a little heavier to lift!!
  7. More proof that May is an idiot: this committee has oversight over all major sports/the competitive nature of them.

Since this clearly falls under their area of responsibility, what better time to discuss it than right now? People are dialed in due to the fact it's bowl season and very little is done legislatively during the holidays.
  8. Well, since Congress is merely an extension of ourselves---it consists of people who represent all of us---shouldn't we also stop watching and participating in collegiate sports? I mean, shouldn't we be more concerned with a war we can't win, a horrible economy, outrageous energy prices and our dependency on oil, etc.?

Why should we expect Congress to devote 100% of its time to only the "important" tasks that fall under its area of responsibility when we ourselves do not devote 100% of our time to, say, our jobs?

Lord knows I don't want to think or talk about my job 24/7. Maybe you feel differently.
  9. If CFB fans had the stones to do that, this problem would be fixed overnight. When fans choose to vote using economic ballots, things usually get fixed, especially in a business as B-I-G as CFB....:thumb:
  10. Don't be fooled. The NCAA doesn't control the college football post season. No one in Indianpolis is dictating what is done or not done regarding a post season in football. Kevin Wreiberg and the conference folks that make up the BCS control the postseason. The NCAA is scared to death to get involved and are hoping Congress forces the BCS's hand with this because the NCAA is scared that the power wielding conferences that make up the BCS will just break off and go play in and under their own system in all sports not just football. That would absolutely destroy the NCAA.
