You cannot be serious. The cable companies give you one as part of the package. It's only about $5 extra a month.
And when you watch non sports shows you just record them and then skip the commercials when you watch. You can watch a one hour show in about 45 minutes.

And we had still had a VCR until my 10-year-old inserted a grilled cheese sandwich into the tape slot when she was 3 or 4.

I am. The wife has the cable provided DVR on her TV. I'll admit it's been a while since I used the VCR. Probably to watch a tape of an old LSU game.
