No, safety is an issue. So is revenue, but as martin says, there is not that much revenue to be had.

I bet a lot more people are hurt frying turkeys or boiling crawfish than making shine.

Absolutely, When I lived in Ks my neighbor had a full blow beer making operation going on. He was always running six packs across the yard for me to "sample". I miss that dude.

Hooked on phonics holmes, I said the exact opposite, that it WAS a waste for them to pursue these hillbillies. There just isn't enough revenue there for them to justify what they spend trying to catch them. They should leave Jethro alone.

Who says the law is consistent? Making food and making whiskey get different consideration.

When I lived in Denver in the early 90s, the homebrew bug bit me hard. I was doing all grain mashes every other weekend. I had to stop for a while when I realized had 26 cases of homebrew stacked against my dining room wall.

I lived in a not so nice area of Denver (Curtis Park) and friends would "stop by" because they "were in the neighborhood" at 1 am on a Saturday morning (translation = they struck out with the chick they were buying drinks for at the bar and blew their drinking budget for the night).

Anyway, I used to be able to brew beers that would rival ANY microbrewery in Denver. Can't say my I am still at the top of my game anymore, but I try to recoup my glory days a few times each year.

Back to the topic t hand, one of these days I will buy one of these in order to "purify" the drinking water for the water tanks on my sailboat:

Note that I would use this solely for the purposes of water distillation, and the production of essential oils and herbal extracts. No other alternative should be inferred because none is implied.
