It depends on how Drake Nevis and/or Pep Levingston play in Alexander's absence. We know Favorite's a quality player, and that there is little if any drop-off there. We just need someone else to step up and take the snaps Favorite was taking. If there's a drop-off, that's where we'll see it.

Too bad for Charles though. I hate to see our players get hurt and miss out on what looks like such a great season in the works.

The two serious injuries have been during "non-contact" practice. Maybe we need more contact. Please, no more injuries. This is getting serious.

Miles will not remove the red shirt from Nevis unless he absolutely has to.

And he has to. Who is going to play behind Favorite? We rotate 8 DL every game. They aren't going to tell Favorite to suck it up and play the entire game.

Cant 7 rotate where 8 were? Woods is going to have to play behind Favorite and Dorsey. I hate to take a shirt of Nevis.

Sure they can, but why would they? Pelini likes to rotate 4 DL to have fresh legs for an entire season.

Nevis was 3rd on the depth chart before Alexander's injury. He may not play this weekend, but I expect he'll see action against Tulane to get him ready for the rest of the season.

Nothing wrong with playing true freshmen. Woods and Dorsey did it.

My attitude towards redshirting is that if a true freshman can help you, you play him. If Drake Nevis is now our 4th best DT, he can help us on the field, and we should play him. If Pep Levingston would be better, then don't play Nevis.

It is my opinion that you NEVER hold a player off the field unless he a) wants to redshirt or b) cannot help you succeed. Don't give up ANYTHING this year hoping to achieve a benefit four years down the road. It's just too uncertain to look that far ahead. He can leave for the NFL if he's really good, or he can get injured, or really anything can happen.

I agree, they're here to contribute for 4 years and, if they're ready or "The next in line" when needed, play 'em. Especially with the current state of our program- the table is set for a NC.......there's only one place to go so, as a coach, I wouldn't look back and feel I didn't exhaust ever bit of ammo I had (Within reason, obviously) and that could've done more. Roll 'em.

It's kinda like being in the semi's and "Saving" a pitcher for the finals but never getting there so you lost out with your hoss not using his allotted innings.

I disagree. Granted, Alexander was a starter next to Dorsey, but we have Marlon Favorite ready to fill in as well as Al Woods.

I don't see how you could say we're going to be hurt in the 4th quarter of games when Al Woods hasn't exactly played as much as one would think. Woods has played a good amount, but it's been because of blowouts. But don't get me wrong, Woods is good enough to play more, but Alexander and Favorite are slightly ahead of him is all.

With Pep Levingston able to be slide down from his DE spot to DT for a few plays as a 4th DT, we're going to be fine.

It's NOT just the depth in numbers along the D-line that we have, it's the QUALITY of depth.

Dorsey, Favorite, Woods and Levingston will be the 4 DT's...

Jackson, Aleim, Pittman, Levingston and Johnson at DE. We have more than enough depth along the D-line to keep guys fresh well into the 4th quarter of games.
