This isn't the first time that Alley has "tried" to quit the team. I don't claim to know Alley personnally, but I believe you when you say that he is great kid. This was no cut to Alley. Knee injuries are tough to overcome. Getting over the physical part of rehab is extremely taxing, and getting over the mental part is even worse. Alley needs to get his head right. He needs to rededicate himself, and do whatever it takes to get himself back on the playing field. If that means he has to do extra work, and avoid the 4th meal at Taco Bell at 11pm, so be it. Glen Davis didn't melt off his extra weight in the sauna, and Alley won't either if he doesn't work at it. He has a support staff ready to work with him, he just needs to want it for himself, and ask for the help. Alley had his chances early in the season to show he was ready to produce, and he didn't perform well. JV didn't produce, either. We know the OL is in bad shape. The coaches are working with what they have. They are trying to find a back or combo of backs that provide the most bang for buck. Who knows what Miles will pull out of his undersized cap this week. Doesn't matter. If Alley wants to be a part of the mix, he has to earn it. Nobody needs to, or should, throw him a bone. The way to earn it is to drop about 10-15 pounds as quickly as possible by working his butt off in practice, and before and after, and staying disciplined at the feed trough. I want these kids to succeed, both on and off the field. I want the TEAM to be successful, and I want to see a good product on the field as return for my investment in Tiger Football. Open discussions in this forum are just that, discussions. Anyone who cuts players on a personal level are brought into line pretty quickly, as you will see if you opt to hang around long enough. Welcome to the board, Marine.
Scott 44 rushes 270 yard 5 TDs. Alley 44 rushes 135 yards 3 TDs. Scott DNP against Auburn and Florida(Top 10 Defenses). Alley DNP against Tulane and Kentucky(Probalbly bottom 20 Defenses). Who do you think would have the easier time running the ball with no blocking on the oline? You can see when Alley is going to have a good day. He usually needs 10-15 carries just to get into a game. Most good backs do. The difference in the statistics is that in the Auburn and Florida games Alley was hit in the backfield quite a few times while in the Tulane and Kentucky games the defenders were seldom in the backfield. Just my opinion. BTW Thank you for the welcome. Semper Fi.
