Agreed Okie. If it wasn't OUR former head coach who took us to our only National Championship in 45 years, I don't think we'd be so interested. If Nick opts out of the deal, and I'm still thinking thats what will happen, then this will drop from "very interesting" for us Tiger fans, to "interesting".

If Nick drops out, this is much less interesting to us.

Well you should change that to $40 Sabillion instead of $20. From what I saw posted on ESPN this is the figure they were going to be offering Saban for the job.

Don't know how many years this involves though.

I agree with you on that point. I just think it has been all consuming to the point of at times getting way more attention than what our team/coach are doing. (Other than the hat debate, of course!:hihi: )

The only humor I can find in the whole thing is the thought of some panties getting in a major wad should St. Nick to to 'Bama.

Dye still has duties that he performs for AU, so he is still on the payroll, but still "working". (Even Bama has emeritus position) His total buyout was, granted, a bit over $1,000,000. Bowden only cost us $620,000, Shula cost, what, $4,000,000?

    Did Alabama pay anything to:

    Gene Stallings
    Mike Dubose
    Mike Price

I don't feel that I'm missing any of the history. The ONLY ways laws are "repaired" is by someone (usually of authority) taking a stand for what's right. To repeal a law takes legislation and someone has to take a stand first. Then we have the "moral" implications of taking (or not taking) a stand for what is morally correct. Years of parents teaching their kids that a human is less than another human because of the color of his skin is tough to overcome.
Also, in the films I've viewed concerning Gov Wallace, he stated that he was adamant about his stand on integration. He offered no protection for the black students trying to enter formally white institutions. These students eventually got help from the national guard as per orders from President Kennedy for their own protection against the mobs trying to get to them during the entry to the schools. The blacks who were there protesting were beaten by the crowd (some by the local police officers). Eventually, Gov Wallace had these protesters arrested and sent to jail all over the state until the state was on the verge of running out of cells to house the arrested protesters.
The only reason I'm replying to the reply that you offered on my post, is to correct anyone who reads it that may come to believe that Gov Wallace just did this to uphold the state constitution. I'm very informed on the state of Alabama (I have 2 kids attending Troy although I begged them to select LSU).

    LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU!

Stallings retired so I have no idea what his retirement package is.

DuBose was fired and received no further payment. There were clauses in his contract from his past sins, he owed us money till he was pardoned after winnng the SEC the year before he was fired.

Mike Price never signed a contract with Alabama so all he got were paychecks for the few months he was employed. He lost a lawsuit.

aTm owed us money for Franchione.

We will pay Shula his monthly salary till the expiration date of his current contract. He did not get a lump sum. Should he take employment, and he must actively seek employment, the difference in salary will be deducted from what Alabama pays him. Anyone looking for a slightly used coach?
