I have become a basketball fan as of late, thanks to Pokey and the Lady Tigers. It is exciting to watch them, even though it all happens so fast and is hard to keep up with. I have been reading the sports page to try to educate myself on what I watched on t.v. the day before. I notice that the sports writers use a lot of terms and saying that I don't know... like today they were saying and quoting Temeka that we were "warriors on the boards". What does that mean? What are the boards?
PS If you don't ask the question, you'll never learn.

That term means that the team rebounds the ball well.

A board is simply a rebound. And you are correct about asking questions, there are no dumb questions!

The "boards" refers to the backboards that are made of glass, that the goal is affixed to.

They call it "boards" for short.

Thanks for the answers. That makes sense now. And to the guy that said, "Run before the geeks find you." What geeks? Surely you don't mean any of the fine individuals that post here?
I cheered for the CHS basketball team when they went to the state finals back in an earlier decade. They should have educated us more than...
"Down, down, down the court! Up, up, up, the score! Down the court, up the score. We want two!" Were three point shots around back in the uhhhm, ahhh, oh the heck with it...the Eighties! Now I am dating myself.
Alas, Geaux Girl sounds better than Geaux Middle Aged Woman. As I have mentioned before on this forum.:yelwink2:

When a shot is put up by either team, and missed, there is an opportunity for a rebound of that missed shot. Whomever collects the carom, it's considered that they collected a "rebound". If a team is rebounding well, it could be said they're "blocking out" or "boxing out" efficiently. Great "Glass Men" would include recent college and current NBA stars like Emecca Okafor, Charles Barkely (Once known at Auburn as the "Round Mound of Rebound"), etc...

Anytime you can rebound the ball, you can control tempo of the game, ensure the other team isn't getting second chances to score (called "second chance points" or "second chance opportunities"), or ensure that you increase your chances of scoring if you can dominate and obtain offensive rebounds off of your own team's shots...

And the "Fast Break" does that mean they got the rebound and hauled it back to the other side of the court really fast?
