5* on Scout (#8 DE) and 4* on Rivals basically said he is done with Tenn and headed to LSU after the initial announcement that Kiffen was headed to USC. He is not saying anything now so we will see what he says when he gathers his thoughts but it is looking very good for LSU.

He visited LSU back in late November but distance seemed to be a factor but now with Wilson adding his presence alongside Chavis we are in a great spot to snag him. From what I have gathered some are project him as a LB/DE combo with his quickness so basically another Justin Parker type prospect.

He was going to start classes tomorrow as an early enrollee but he is not going. Look for a decision very soon. LSU starts classes on the 19th.

He played in the Army All American game.

This is from the Tennessean this morning:
It doesn’t appear UT fans will get the same response from Jacques Smith, a UT commitment who is regarded by multiple recruiting services as the state’s top prospect for the 2010 class. Smith, who is from the Chattanooga suburb of Ooltewah, told Rivals.com that he wants to go to LSU now.

It will be tough because he doesnt want to go far from home.

TexasTigers Are You With Me ?

Arent we running pretty low on spots available ?
If this Fobbs kid is indeed considering a jump from A&M, and a few others.
I wonder how much LSU could scoop up from the UT fallout. Are we not pretty full already ?

Would be a big pickup like getting a brian orakpo(sp?) time player. Always good news when you can add talent like him on the defense side of the ball hope he signs w/lsu

That's an interesting highlight video. You normally expect to see a lot of sacks and breaking up screen passes when you go to a DE's highlights. This video was all about inside rush, flowing to the ball and stopping the run. I wonder if this guy could be a middle linebacker down the road?

He looks too stiff and plays too high to be an ILB IMO. He plays so high I thought he was taller than 6'2" until I looked at the stats. We just gave up on playing a lanky Mingo at LB and put him at DE so I don't think we are likely to repeat that attempt any time soon. I agree that the video is unusual in that it doesn't show him with sacks are a speed rush. The most athletic thing he does is deflect a pass, but it isn't a great highlight reel. How did he do in the all-star game?

I thought Mingo was back at LB.

LSU is pretty much done if no other surprises over the next couple of weeks. Only a few slots left, the DE is a possibility, actually it looks like it's almost a given right now. LSU could offer a few of them but that would be about it, like mastermind said you can greyshirt a few guys but the roster is pretty much full. If someone wants a spot they better be quick.
