I read an article recently that stated that Miles likes the size of Dominique Allen. Miles said if Allen can carry the ball, then he would give him the ball because he's a big boy. This brought up the future RB situation in my mind. If Dominique Allen can get a lot of carries and Richard Dugas is a solid fill for the FB position, then how will our RB Depth Chart look in the future? If Dugas fills in, that frees Ridley and Allen to get carries if they play well enough. This could allow Michael Ford to redshirt this year because we could already have two bruising backs to run the ball and then a scat-type back in Richard Murphy for next season. So my main question for this discussion is what do you think the depth chart looks like for the future years keeping in mind Dugas, Allen, Ford, and Ridley?
Not. Gonna. Happen. Got Hilliard/Hill and others to consider for next recruiting season, plus Lache, Ware, and possibly others (Blue) to consider THIS recruiting season. Don't wanna redshirt RBs in front of them.
Allen has the ability to run the ball more than previous FBs at LSU. He won't be a featured RB, ala a Jerome Bettis, but he won't be a 1 carry a game FB either. He can be that bruiser that gets the quick hitting carries 4-6 times a game to keep the defense honest and help open up running lanes for our speedier backs.
If he doesn't develop an SEC-caliber arm, Shepard could be a running back next year. Maybe a damn good one.
He would have to gain a significant amount of weight to endure the rigors of being a tailback. That just isn't in the cards for him. QB and Percy Harvin type player are his 2 best shots.
Ahh... well, in all fairness, Shep's never been much of a passing QB. However, I agree you that he doesn't quite fit the RB mold. I expect to see him as a 'utility' type player kind of like Harvin was. I think if he's got hands we could see him as a slot receiver for some plays. And of course, the designed QB running/option type stuff. He'll do lots of different things, no telling what Crowton has planned for him.
Miles said yesterday that KW was primed for a breakout year. He said he has the best body, strength and speed combination at the position. He just lacks vision in the hole and he thinks that will be fixed this year. If KW and Scott have great years, it is going to be tough for many others to get quality reps. That is a good problem to have. With the OL this year, the running backs should be able to rack up the yards. And when defenses put 8 men in the box to try and stop the RBs, Lafell, TT and RR should be able to shine.
