he was one of my favorites when he played. smart floor general type. would make good SEC coach

    P&G_wheelz007 Football anyone?

    OK, I'll play along ....

If this turns out to be true, it could be a good hire. He's young, and played ball at KENTUCKY, and he's familiar with the SEC.

Didn't he play on a Final Four team for Pitino? Or am I mistaken?

If so, it can't be a bad thing.

there wont be any kind of announcement from the powers that be until after their NIT game...but I'm starting to think this is our guy and anyone from the pitino tree is at least worth a shot.

Ok here is my take. It is probably not nonsense. Pat Forde is rarely wrong on things of this nature. And being that he is from Kentucky maybe just maybe he has a little more insight than most. Plus Ford's Umass team is still playing and nothing can be said until they are done.

If true, honestly, I'm less than pleased and have to think that this is a little bit of a compromise. Yes, he was a point guard in the SEC and yes he played for Pitino. BUT, UMass is not a program without significant hoops history, and Ford hasn't exactly lit the world on fire there (a few advances in the NIT).

I think that there is a process going on and that process is for the LSU AD to be named and then the "finalists" will be talked to over the weekend and the one that "fits" best will have their contract negotiated through the front of the week. Grant or Bennett excite me a little bit more than Ford, and I hope it's the case that these guys haven't already given us the soft denial.

Not to say that Ford wouldn't make someone a good coach... here's his detailed bio:

But, it says something to me that he's never coached a team to (or in) the NCAAs.
