During the weeks following the Virginia Tech game, LSU received many glowing comments from across the country. The eyes of sports fans everywhere were on LSU that day, and we showed them that we have the proudest, most energetic, and courteous fans in the world.
The national spotlight will shine on us this weekend in a way rarely before seen on campus. This is an important opportunity to once again set an example for LSU and the entire state. On Friday, CBS’s “The Early Show” will broadcast live from 6 to 8 a.m., detailing LSU’s legendary tailgating traditions. We are also hosting our annual Fall Fest activities Friday in the Quad. I hope everyone enjoys themselves at this great celebration, and if you see any of our out-of-town guests, show them that fantastic Louisiana hospitality that everyone raves about after visiting our campus.
On Saturday, both ESPN and CBS will be on campus in anticipation of our game Saturday night against the University of Florida Gators. I am constantly reminded by friends and colleagues who cannot make it here for home games how incredible the campus always looks on television. Let’s all make sure to do our part in keeping LSU one of the most beautiful university settings in the world. And please remind visiting Tiger fans that our University community cares for our campus on game day and every day – and we want them to share that pride.
During this week I have had the opportunity to meet with the leadership of the professional law enforcement units on our campus and in the Baton Rouge community. They appreciate the intensity of the events we are about to experience and have redoubled their efforts to emphasize the critical need for all law enforcement officials to demonstrate the highest professionalism and commitment to service. Tiger fans across the campus on game day should feel an added sense of support from the police officers – and we should all make it a point to tell them how much we appreciate what they do for us.
Earlier this week, the Associated Press ranked our Tiger football team #1 in the nation. Now, it’s time to show the world that our LSU family and fans are also #1.
As always, thank you for your dedicated and enthusiastic support of LSU.
