Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like the prices are good. I usually get them from Shavers in Shreveport, who brings them in from Lake Charles. Anyone know any direct distributors in the Shreveport area that can get me a good deal on about 250-300lbs?

Yeah, that's why I started doing a boil myself in Dallas. Can't find good boiled crawfish anywhere around here. Some places like Razoos attempt it, but it is never any good.

My only problem now is getting my Texas pals to actually eat a large quantity. Alot of people around here just eat a few to sample and then go for the jambalaya and meat pies. I am training good Texas crawfish eaters, slowly but surely.

They can set the "Grader" to different count sizes so I'm not sure about that one. Maybe ask them but it may depend on what they're catching too.

My father-in-law owns a wholesale seafood processing plant that handles crawfish and crabs. The " #1 " selects are primarily sold to restaurants. Its amazing how much crab he actually ships to other parts of the country.

30% of Louisiana crawfish is exported, mainly to Sweden.

Next time you buy selects ask the guy if they weigh about an ounce each. I have done this when they look small and when a few were weighed for me and they werent close to an ounce, I just bought the regualr size to save money.

I know what you mean, when I lived in Orlando I had Community coffee and tony's seasoning shipped to me every couple of momths. Publix grocery store there sold crawfish, they had about thirty in the display case and they charged per crawfish. I laughed so hard I can't even remember the price.:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

I prefer the good medium-sized ones.....don't remember counts- been too long since we fooled with 'em and we mostly buy ours boiled now. You get more in a sack of meds cause- and I'm sure many won't believe the difference- the head/pinchers, take up more room. Also, if a sack is 40+ pounds- they're small. Nice crawfish, field run are 32-36 pounds in a full sack.
