Comments from Brady in the Memphis, TN Commercial Appeal (3.05.2007). http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/other_sports/article/0,1426,MCA_1757_5397505,00.html Article on SEC Basketball has this on LSU: "Biggest Disappointment: LSU The Tigers lost at home, they lost on the road. The Tigers lost in big gyms, they lost in little gyms. The Tigers lost early, they lost late. The Tigers, in other words, lost a lot. Ranked No. 5 in the preseason polls -- in the country, mind you, not in the SEC -- LSU (16-14, 5-11 SEC) wound up finishing last in the SEC West. It was quite an accomplishment, returning the conference's player of the year (Glen Davis) and winding up in the basement after visiting the Final Four last April. If nothing else, LSU's collapse revealed how much the team missed forward Tyrus Thomas, who left for the NBA after his freshman year, and point guard Darrel Mitchell, whose senior leadership was key to the Tigers' postseason run last season. Davis, a junior forward, produced, averaging 17.8 points and 10.4 rebounds, but coach John Brady said Davis suffered through some distractions this season. "I allowed him to be pretty accessible (to the media) early on, and we didn't do a good enough job of managing it or helping him manage it, or he didn't manage it as well as I thought, and it affected us there for a while," Brady said. "And Glen's had some situations happen to him personally -- he had a car wreck, he had a family situation that really flared up. It was a lot of things that distracted the notoriety that he got early, but also some personal things that went on that had been settled in his life for a while. A lot of things that people don't know about. But those things happen."
Brady needs to add this to his list of excuses... "I let Davis play on the perimeter instead of having his butt on the block where he belongs."
I was really worried about all the attention he was getting and how it could affect him down the line. I guess I was right. Maybe this means he'll stick around for his senior year, though.
Just the opposite. Lots of people were saying this team was better w/o him. Some accused him of not being hurt enough to miss those games down the stretch. If anything, it convinced him to take the cash.
Didnt want to start a new thread but Davis named to 1st team All-SEC. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070306/BREAKINGNEWS/70306022/1001/SPORTS
They were better without him because the other four players on the floor were forced to play instead of standing around watching him try to win the game by himself. Brady may know defense but he can't even spell offense much less teach it.
Can't argue with that. The worst mistake Brady made this year was allowing Davis to play anywhere he wanted on offense. The message to the other players ... get Davis the ball anywhere on the court b/c you guys suck on offense.
What coach in his right mind would pull their star post player off the block and let him play on the perimeter. Guess you think they should move Shaq, too...
Well, that is a aggravating tendency of Big Baby's, but I'm not sure he's coached to plant himself there.
