I'd rather not start the season off against an SEC team, even if it's MSU. Just too many things can go wrong in game 1 on the road.

On the flip side, this should give us a sense of urgency coming out of the gates with an SEC game followed by a top 10 team (probably) to open the home slate. Maybe this will help us avoid the early season loss we've had in recent years.

I definitely like the Auburn game later in the year.

Auburn later in the season much better. Both teams should be hitting at all pistons by then.
Then off to Bama.. Nice schedule next year. Lots of good games

Scares the crap out of me. I'd prefer Tech or Middle Tennessee as a first game to work out the bugs.

Va Tech is better then MSU by a long shot. Beat Alabama and Auburn and you win the west even with a loss to MSU. But I must admit we lose to MSU we have bigger problems. Lets face it they have the same challanges we do. Actually worse, because they are scheming an whole new offense (New QB, Coord) with no tape. They will have to use old Pac-10 tape to scheme. We have the upper hand in both talent and preperation.

I saw on an earlier thread that ESPN may help us find a replacement for the Middle Tenn. game (a bigger D1A school) if this deal was made. Any word on that?

Well, if LSU gets through September and October unbeaten, November is a cakewalk. The Tigers must be quick starters this year. No out-of-conference cupcakes to start the season with.

We may need Middle Tennessee State in the September lineup.

I like this. Gives us more preparation time for Hokies. I'm kind of excited about skipping school and taking off of work and then coming back home to have a whole free weekend, actually. The only cause for alarm has been what's already been mentioned about starting off on the road and playing an SEC opponent. Other than that, there's really nothing else to worry about. We've historically taken care of business against Moo.

I agree. That game, being the third game of the season, is a great game to what some of our younger guys can do. That and it will give the starters a break, ESPECIALLY with South Carolina the next week.
