This is my second and final post on the Saban situation. The slap in the face was to the Miami Organization and fans. Had LSU had an opening he would be here, not Bama. But after he showed his true colors, I wouldnt have wanted him to coach our now highly respected program. It would hurt our image and recruiting, IMO. Miles is the coach for LSU now and I am very happy we have him. Bama has a struggling program and had nothing to lose but their bank accounts. I am glad he is at Bama, they are a good fit. It will help out our in conference rivalry that is fading away now that they are not a competitive team. I hope Saban will fix that and balance the state of Alabama. Saban's recruiting will hurt Auburn, Florida(maybe),and Georgia the most. He will take a few recruits out of LA but not many great ones. Players come to LSU b/c we are becoming a national college football force and recruits want a shot at a NC every year.
Bama fans are just embarrasing to look at.:rofl: Every program has rowdy fans, so I dont get your point. I dont remember LSU fans ever throwing bottles at their own players after an overtime loss.
I've said this before, and it looks like this line is going to be one of those stories that just keeps getting spread regardless if it applies to this situation or not. It wasn't the record that caused Shula to lose his job. The 6-6 record was a symptom of the problem, yes. But not the root cause. As example, a lack of discipline (actions and enforcement) off the field translates to a lack of discipline on the field...no matter where you look, you can see that.
Yes - I meant and continue to mean and imply that many Alabama fans are so enthusiastic that I would have a hard time stomaching it if I was not a Bama fan that was not similarly disposed. It's almost like a mild form of retardation. The blonde who licked Saban at the airport is just an example. Other examples might include the over-the-top motorcade that escorted Saban to his presser, or the gumps that lined the highway replete with pompoms to exult him along the way. I really think Saban must have been thinking - what in the hell have I gotten myself into? You don't need to come to this board to remind LSU fans that they are rowdy, we already know that.
I just saw Saban's interview on ESPN. I was stunned. He did a classic Saban sales job on Bama but left the door open to go back to the NFL or coach at another SEC school. He said in addressing his legacy "I would like to be remembered as winning a NC at LSU and another SEC school like Alabama." He also said he still loves the NFL game. Classic Nick! He could not say winning an NC at Alabama only. He always keep his options open. Slick Nick at his best. If the heat gets to hot his pimp Sexton will be on the phone. Sexton must love his client Saban. He makes so much money off the guy. Gosh, if I'm reading him like this it really says a lot about how he is trusted. I think many folks now question what he says. Well, I guess that was the whole purpose of the interview at Alabama. Trying to restore some credibility.
I found it funny when he said Sexton called him and, after saying he didn't want to talk to them and Sexy said blah blah, Nick said, "I really don't think I want to talk to them." Didn't sound like the NS I knew- "Don't think"?? He's more assertive than that......not his words to me. Definitely trying to "Restore" though......he must know his creditbility is damaged, regardless of whether the public perception is right......public perception is reality to the public.
That is one of the worst statements you can use at a time like this for damage control. Once trust is broken, it is very hard to fix it. I hate to say this, although I do believe he missed college coaching, where his chances of success will be easier, he doesn't belong to a higher education institution where "honesty, commitment, and integrity" is supposed to be held to a high standard. It is a shame that Alabama University is blind sided by the eagerness to regain respect or success with their football program, and overpoured the resources into only one risky hire. Again, classic sociopath behavior: always blaming it on other people and not seeing your own wrongs.
