I see your point although I disagree. Are you an LSU fan or has your team ever been in one of these situations? I can tell you aren't a AU fan from your post. I just think that the bowl system is out of date such as the old cash registers used in some stores. The playoffs seem to have more meaning to myself. So you are happy with the LSU's of the world playing UAB, Fresno State, Arkansas Indians of the world? I am not, there is nothing like having a rent a win football game, the fans are cheated, most of them never go to these games so how could they have any meaning? Your sixth point, do you really think teams would give up? I think we should have bowl games like today with the exception that the top 10 teams should have a playoff or something like that! Everyone talks about division 2 football playoffs for instance. Seventh point is rediculous, reminds me of teachers not giving kids bad grades because it might hurt their confidence. No hate here just don't agree with some of your arguments!
Let's keep the BCS. But let's make a new conference of the best 32 teams and call it, well, the Big-32.
I agree it was exciting THIS YEAR and will have worked perfectly if Fla. (by virtue of winning their conference) gets into the NC game. But, it fails more often then it works; especially if there is no clear cut No. 2 team. If USC wins today, there would be 2 one loss conference winning teams. While the media would have 'annoited' USC as OSU's opponent, I still think Fla.s body of work was more impressive and think they should still have gotten the nod.
I would chose: 1) #1 and #2 2) no more than 2 teams per conference 3) no more than 8 teams in playoff 4) minor conference champions, proportionate to number of minor teams in top 25 (maximum), in top 12 5) major conference champions (including independents) in top 6 6) major conference teams (including independents) in top 6 7) if less than 4 teams, at large teams up to 4 teams As far as teams squabbling over lesser positions in the playoff, I prefer teams that haven't truly earned it during the regular season squabbling over scraps rather than legit teams being left out because the BCS can't accomodate reality. I don't see that this is necessary. Secondary bowls carry on independent of the playoff. Bowl teams' fanbases would still follow their team and college football fans, in general, would still like to watch the last games of the college football season. No less than both groups currently do. A playoff may come down to the funny bounce of the football, but so do regular season games. That is the way of football and I think as football fans we all accept that risk. The playoff champion may not be the "best" team, but I can guarantee that the best team will have had a chance to play for the :crystal:. Can you really ask for anything more?
As exciting as it is waiting to see what bowl we will be in and against who, just imagine if this was all part of a playoff.
Does everyone still believe everything worked out fine? In my opinion LSU got screwed this and last year!
