Bull Roosevelt elk average anywhere from 700 pounds to more than half a ton. Cows weigh at least 575 pounds.

There was another tragedy just about a year ago, in far eastern Oregon, where a herd of 41 Elk drowned, breaking through the ice, while crossing a lake. Shit happens and always will, but still it bums me out, Elk are magnificent animals.

 

Elk sausage is the best,.. they salvaged 1,600 pounds of meat from the wreak, donated to food banks and senior centers
