One thing to consider is that Jones is a big kid and could easily be one of those tweener OLBs that Chavis loves. He's 6'2" 210 lbs, add another 10-15 lbs and he could be that tweener.
Even more excited to see one of the comments that says word on the streets says C. Robinson is about to do the same thing. This might get WOW exciting by the morning of Jan. 3rd.
Personally, I'd like to see all these kids stay home, regardless if they were committed elsewhere first......after all they are just 18 year olds with a bunch of adults putting a ton of pressure on them....any inside update on this @bhelm?
I said this in another thread in the Den. He's actually a step or two slow for the secondary at the college level. He can actually get away with being a little slower at the next level, but it's hard to deal with those smaller, faster guys that will never make an NFL roster like he'll see at the college level. Overall I think he'll be fine at safety, but I'm trying to temper my expectations of him because he isn't quite as fast as one would like.
I remember Ryan Clark was too slow, too this and that to get drafted into the NFL. An how many years has he been playing in the NFL?
I agree. A lot of guys don't believe speed matters more at the college level. Speed is just sexy for draft reasons. But when the rubber hits the road, it's a nice asset, but it's probably low priority as long as the guy is not a turtle. It's the reason I think Loston will be fine. He won't have to deal with as many undersized quick guys who run 4.3's but will never play in the NFL. Troy Polamalu doesn't run anywhere near a 4.5 anymore.
