Yep, overall I was pretty satisfied with the officials. They DID just let them play. The play where they guy stepped out of bounds, they got it right. Refs aren't going to get every single call every game.
Yeah I agree very early on they couldn't get into a rythym because of their penalties. I think a lot of that was due to the fact that they were so overmatched.
I also saw Oregon's left tackle using his hands to get up under the facemask of Montgomery and Adams and use it to push their heads back on more than one occasion. It was driving me crazy because it wasn't being called. That said, I'm sure Duck fan have their own perception of poor officiating they want to complain about, as well.
He threw two overt punches to Matthieu, however Matthieu more covertly pushed him hard on the facemask in return and then Logan slapped him up 'side the head. All-in-all, a good no call, I think. Both teams took shots to the head, nothing really connected, and no one was hurt.
You weren't the only one. Very obvious. Good news is, our guy didn't get sucked in and throw a punch back -- that's generally when the ref starts looking and throws a flag. :geaux:
I thought the officiating was good, especially by former PAC standards. Clean game from my perspective, did you think the Ducks played dirty? I hate the head shot penalty, it's so difficult to know the intent of the tackler. Sometimes the carrier moves his head into the tackle, yet they call the penalty. I hate how the rule has changed the game,.......nonetheless, I support it,..... because of the real dangers from concussion. It's a tough problem. The only solution I see, would be some major innovation in helmets, but if they looked stupid, I wouldn't like them. It's a hard problem.
I don't know about the other refs but Scott Novak (head ref)always calls a good game. He'll be at the NFL level one day.
I don't feel like the ducks played dirty at all. Chit happens on the field. I didn't see any intentional dirty hits trying to hurt anyone or ending their career. In my opinion, the ducks were a classy team with good fans. Good luck in your division.
Not really. Punches get thrown in physical games. I didn't see any cheap shots, although those leg whips were a bit worrisome. Leg whips and chop blocks and such that can cause season and career-ending injuries have to be called.
They replayed one leg whip penalty, first thought was, it looked bad, I didn't like it, haven't really examined it though. Totally agree about leg whips and chop blocks, curious they never showed replays, of the line penalties. Wondering if anyone saw anything else? Clean, hard-hitting game was my take.
